....but what a nice guy! More people like you 13oots2 and the arms industry would be "dead" instead of "death".

Absolutely, and I can assure you 13 is a damn decent guy, 100% genuine.

Just tested out the Technics, it had been given to a neighbour who returned it. All tested working well and cartridge seems to be playing very well, it had little use from me but was unsure how my neighbour had treated it. Will align properly before I send it as it has been adjusted since I donated it, so it should be ready to go as soon as you unpack it.

Have busy couple of days but will package up very securely and try to post before the weekend. Will make sure it is all insured in case the courier tries kickboxing (pun intended) it during lunchbreak.

just phoned the shop up, The salesman who sold it to me said he would speak to the manager to see what he said, I told him i would only be happy with a refund or i would be happy if they could get me a similar priced direct drive deck with perfect or very near perfect pitch, so lets see what he comes up with, gotta phone again tomorrow, He said in 32 years of selling rega decks hes only have one back that plays slow and that was a faulty motor and never had any back that play fast, Perhaps everyone who has bought them has been lucky enough not to have perfect pitch!

I must say the salesman is ok about it, not arrogant or nasty about it, I think he understands my predicament but maybe is scared what the big bad boss might think if he authorised a refund!

Its more likely the one you have is faulty rather than all other users not having perfect pitch

I was under the impression that Regas generally play a bit fast, it's a cheap way to make them sound zippy and impressive. Sharp is always better sounding than flat.

how many days does it have to drag on before he is no longer legally required to offer a refund and can just give you an exchange in the UK? or nothing at all??

Reads like we are hitting a week near abouts already.

ive just read this on their website

Cancellation of Order

You have the right to cancel the sale for up to seven days from receipt of goods without penalty subject to the following -
1.The goods must not be damaged or marked in any way.
2.The goods returned must be in original and complete packaging, including all accessories as supplied.
3.Cancellation must be in writing to 7-11 Park Lane, Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, NE8 3JW
4.A full refund cannot be given for incomplete, damaged or marked goods returned.
5.Special orders or customised items cannot be returned unless defective upon receipt.
6.The cost of returning cancelled goods will be at your expense. Please ensure that you have adequate insurance cover for loss or damage.

dont know if these terms count for a shop sale but today marks the 7th day since i bought it, I didnt open it til friday night, phoned up on saturday and asked for a refund then so if they try and pull a fast one and say tomorrow is past the 7 days i think ill have to give trading standards a ring,

What do you all reckon?

I said to him i cant bear to keep the turntable, I told him i would be willing to exchange for a new similarly priced Direct drive one instead of a refund otherwise i think the refund is the only other option

I'm no expert in these matters but 'The Cancellation of Order' terms are probably there to comply with the UKs Distance Selling Regulations, for purchasing on-line, over the phone or mailorder etc. As it was bought in the shop its worth checking to see if there are any terms of sale printed on the reverse of the invoice. They might be different to those shown on their website and the cancellation policy might not apply in these circumstances. Its the sellers responsibility to prove the item isn't defective. If the item is indeed defective you should be entitled to a refund as it is only a few days old and it's unlikely in law that you would have deemed to have 'accepted' the item. If the defective item cost more than £100 and was purchased using a credit card you may be able to claim your money back through their ‘chargeback’ scheme. You will of course need to contact the card company to make a claim.

sale of goods act overrides any T&Cs the shop may try to impose

OK, just was wondering if he can stall you out of being legally required to offer you a refund. You asked for one Saturday and has not talked to the owner yet because he has not been in the shop, and it is now Wednesday. It all seems a little hinkey to me. Try and get it sorted ASAP.

I know on eBay for example a seller who is not 100% above board will string a buyer along with a promise of a refund, but they do not actually apply for one via Paypal within a given number of days Paypal closes the file and the seller is no longer required to honour the promised refund.

good luck, a call to Rega may be required.

That was my impression too. I've owned a couple of Planar 2's & 3's and all played slightly fast. Not Pinky & Perky fast but a little faster than perfect.
