from charity shops this week ...

Catch a Fire by Bob Marley (but it crackles badly)
Happy Trails by Quicksilver Messenger Service (worth it just for the cover!)
Solid Air by John Martyn (patience pays off)

[quote="Phoca"]So, a month or so ago I bought a Doors LP at my local used record store. I paid somewhere between $8-12 US for it (I've sold a few turntables through them so they usually give me a discount, and the plastic outer sleeve has a $12 tag from them). Album is in decent condition.

It's unlike any LA Woman album I've seen and I'm wondering what it is I have. An aftermarket, or actual early release? Says "Banned Window" on the price tag, but the only such albums I've ever seen are standard cardboard jackets, no window. Thanks for any info anyone cares to provide.

I think it was possibly the first issue from 1971 and carries a price tag of $50 in Mint condition. The standard cover from 1971 is listed at $12 in the 2005 edition. of Goldmine

I was looking at AC/DC records today, too!

I got If You Want Blood. I've listened to Side 1 so far. Pretty good.

Also picked up Marshall Crenshaw - Marshall Crenshaw. Haven't listened to that one yet.

Just a few today...
Queen - Hot Space (not their finest moment by a long stretch but it's mint and mint Queen is hard to come by these days)
The Band - The Last Waltz (dunno why i never bought this but again in really nice condition so worth having)
Tom Waits - Closing Time (cos it's ace)
Jon and Vangelis - The Friends of Mr Cairo (just for I'll find my Way Home and State of Independence really)
Genesis - Genesis (the 1983 album. The copy i have is in pretty poor condition, so a nice clean copy was the order of the day)
Linn LP12, OL RB300, Ortofon 2M Black, Graham Slee Era Gold V, Cambridge Audio 840C, Modwright SWL9.0SE, Audio Research VS55, Sonus Faber Concerto Domus. Luxman L-309X, Yamaha YP511, Luxman T-88V, Pioneer PD-S501, ProAc Tablette 50.

Nice haul.

Monolith is a really underrated Kansas album and probably my favourite after Leftoverture. Also the gatefold art is really cool.

Dirty Deeds was the first AC/DC album I bought way back in 1980 and I still absolutely love it, especially for the guitar solo on 'Ride On'. Superb.

today i went to the athens flee market to grab a few LPs (35...)

the funny thing is that my new Faust symphony by liszt sounds a bit like beethoven.

actually even though the inner labels clearly say liszt the vinyl has 2 of the late sonatas by beethoven.......

Bought Eric Clapton - Live at Budokan (2010) on saturday. It was recorded in 2001, in the same tour that produced One more car, one more rider, so the tracklist is pretty much the same, only with the (unnecesary) addition of Tears in Heaven. But it's just an opinion...
The sound is great, as it is a DMM.

Haven't posted in awhile....but just purchased the following:

1) Little Feat - "Feats Don't Fail Me Now"
2) BeeGees - "Trafalgar"
3) Cat Stevens - "Teaser and the Firecat"
4) Cat Stevens - "Foreigner"
5) Poco - "Under the Gun"

So far I have listened to "Trafalgar" and I was blown away by the sound
quality in a 1971 release. Really detailed recording with nice deep bass. I
was flabbergasted when I first listened to it. Plus the material is some of the
best of the BeeGees earlier work.

I went to the record store yesterday and picked up some great vinyl!

I got the following:

-Talk Talk "It's My Life"
-The Ventures "More Great Golden Hits"
-The Doobie Brothers (forget which album)
-Steppenwolf's Greatest Hits
-Daft Punk's Self-titled Album
-Cheech and Chong's Bambu - It's not in particularly great shape so it wasn't an amazing find, but the vinyl itself is in VG+ condition and I got it for ten bucks!
-A Santana album I can't recall the name of at the moment

And he threw in a free Nazareth vinyl that was scratched to hell, I'm gonna make a "vinyl bowl" out of it! PS - If you haven't heard of making a vinyl bowl when I do it I'll post instructions. It's cool retro goodness! Makes a great christmas gift too.

When you say Daft Punk's self-titled, which one are you referring to? The albums all have titles, but they only throw the band logo on the front. Not being smart-assy, just curious. Love me some Daft Punk. I've got Homework and Discovery on vinyl, as well as one of those Tron picture discs from Record Day 2011.
I know it's only rock & roll, but I like it.

I remember seeing them live in about 79 at the Hammersmith Odeon. 8). Just checked the tour dates and it was 17th Dec. I wish I kept all my tickets :(
