I am also very interested in this phono stage, I've heard very good things about it given its price to performance ratio.

I have one of these and as far as I can tell it works.
One complaint I have was that there was one tube of the pair that while warming up sent out a big blast of noise, I discovered this after I blew up one PC28 Output card in my Dynaco ST416 Amp, caught on fire about 2 seconds after I turned the MS-22B on. I was later able to 'hear' this 'noise' using a pair of old headphones instead of an amp. The vendor supplied me with a new pair of tubes and now it works as expected. I am new to tubes having spent the last 40 years in Solid State only so how to verify the tubes are OK is still a mystery to me, so I depend on the manufacturer (Yaqin) to verify all parts before shipping.
Now it is connected between my SYSTEMDEK II turntable and my Yaqin MC-100B integrated amp and everything sounds fantastic! From my observation of these two components in action I can say that I find this a very very good way to listen to records!

I am still using the stock tubes and I am totally pleased with the sound this set of components provides. Maybe after 10,000 hours of use (or component death) I will update the tubes, but for now I am happy with the Chinese tubes.

I did my 100 hours of burn in on my bench, then I replaced my old Dynaco ST400 and Pat-5 preamp with the MS-22B and MC-100B.

If I were going to do this again the only thing I might change would be the color, I bought the Black & Silver, next one will be the Gold & Green!

Cheers,

Well it arrived a few days ago
At first not overly impressed but
After a couple days use and some worm
Up time is highly musical
Vary satified at this point
And the tube bug has bite me

I ordered one a few days ago. I use the transistor version MS-11B at the moment, and it is not bad at all. Looking forward to the tubes.

Hey everyone.

Sorry for bumping this old thread but I'm interested in the ms22b phono preamp as well. Anyone ever use this phono preamp with a Rega RB250 and an Ortofon OM-20 cart and care to share their thoughts good or bad? Also has anyone done any tube rolling with this phono preamp? I got a bunch of fully working 12AX7 type tubes that test well from the 60s and 70s and was going to use them with the phono pre. That and I have some Groove Tubes, Tung Sol and JJ 12AX7 tubes that I got from a local guitar shop to try as well. I'm wondering if the MS22B will work well with the older tubes or is made to mate well with the newer reissue tubes.

Thanks in advance.

I bought one of these at a bargain price but found the overall response disappointing and lifeless. All the vitality and energy seemed to get lost compared to a home made unit I had based on the now defunct WAD phono amp design. So I set about converting the MS22B but it did not have the third Triode to use as a Buffer. I swapped the MS22B Transistor for a Mosfet and did some track cuts and gutting. The end result is amazing and has to be heard to be believed. No it is not a perceived improvement, this is smack in your face stuff, full dynamics, sound stage, definition, in fact the lot!
Well worth doing if you have the soldering skills, anyway I thought I would share with you my pdf on the subject. BTW the work gets rid of the hum loop on the input RCA's too.

I have since designed in a third valve as the Buffer and removed the Mosfets. A definite improvement still and worth the effort. Link is still valid as the pdf is regularly updated. Les
