Oriental languages, such as Chinese, which use the tone of the spoken word as an integral part of the language, produce a much higher percentage of people with perfect pitch.
That some of our western countries have very large numbers of consumers without good, let alone perfect, pitch, is shown by the odd success on top 40 radio of so many singers that wouldn't know the correct note if it bit them.

Didn't you find it a touch jingoistic in nature? The only person who didn't mention something related to the remnants of the Great British Empire was myself.

It also isn't a matter of disagreeing, but it would have been nice to see people taking off their blinkers and acknowledging there are excellent HiFi products outside the sceptred isle.

Only started the thread because someone on CL's thread suggested looking at current production.

No, to be honest it looks like trolling by the thread starter I drive a French car, sit on an English Sofa,use a Japanese computer, drink Scottish Whisky and listen to a mix of British/Japanese HiFi. Hardly extreme patriotism...

Actually you were the first to mention the UK when you ruled out a dozen UK brands on technicalities. You then ruled that UK gear is just 'cottage industry stuff', then listed Linn and Meridian in you 'pick of the best'. Maybe you should try reading your own posts

Sorry, I thought I was supposed to be naming a country based on gear I'd actually heard and liked For some reason this resulted in people naming the country they though still made the best HiFi - what a messed up world! If the thread was really about what you think is the best HiFi then you shouldn't have asked for replies...

Maybe you should have listed more rules...here is a template for future use

Nooo, I deny your accusations that the posts were jingoistic You asked 'which country' with your example being Germany and a list of manufacturers. I answered based on my own experience which was the UK and listed some manufacturers. I didn't 'lead' anything, people just answered the question. Please stop reading motives into everybody's answers and give people a little more respect...it's just HiFi

FWIW if you had asked which countries (plural) I would have put Japan up there too, although I haven't heard much of their current gear? The US also has some interesting looking stuff, but next to none of it makes it over here so it would be daft to compare stuff I've no experience of...

I really meant this thread to be "Just a bit of fun," ie dont take posts so seriously being it is all light hearted, dont spoil things with rude comments.

Speakers,,British lots of them and American (The AR acoustic suspension)..

Turntables Britain/Switzerland,,,with a respectful nod to the US (Edgar Villchur)
Never owned a direct drive so I can't judge,,only heard them in passing or for DJ use..Never had money for expensive or heard

Amplification,, Britain and the USA again...And NAD 3020 series Norwegian/Canadian/American/British Made in Japan and China and various other places...Can't deny the 3020 series success at sound per pound though..

Tonearms,,The ones I can afford seem to be British..The two real landmarks seem to be the 3009 and the Rega...Yes there are others I know,I love my Hadcock GH220ss and think it blows the SME series 2 and 3 into the weeds..,but 3009 and Rega are very successful and in their era changed the game..

Cartridges...American and Japanese..AT and Shure...Don't like any Ortofon's,Nagaoka's or Goldring's I have owned...Never had money for Hi end Moving Coils from Japan..

Just in my experience mind..Hope it doesn't start people bitching at each other..

Instead of enjoying music, some like to play A Game Of The Names...that's all...

LP albums are the very same for all equipment anyone could have of has. Cleaner records, cleaner sound? But THE MUSIC is same. No one has some extraordinary hearing, unless some aliens from other planets are here.
What do you expect when you buy a stereo equipment and LPs to listen on to?
To expect to hear something that other people can't hear? Most people could hear same frequencies. Only musicians could have a wider range of frequency response.

It can be created several different treads on here, let's say:

"Which country has more paranoia about their stereos rather to enjoying music" and so on and on....

I'm not a globalist, but people everywhere are the same - with 2 hands, 2 legs, 2 very same pair of ears - just like a deaf people are the same everywhere - they can NOT hear...

To compare names of the brands that produce stereo equipment - just shows, how some people more or less are brainwashed by commercials or those, who by their own mistake want to believe that buying this or that brand of equipment will make you to hear that some others couldn't hear.
Just a SELF-IMAGINATION - You believe in what you want to believe. Nothing else or special.

Sound Quality? Of course, anyone who spends more money on their equipment wants to believe that they have better quality...
