Thanks for your comment, Alec. Yes, I'll have to see how it looks once I've finished with the router. What I liked about this end-grain butcher block is that the boards are not regularly sized or spaced so I'm hoping that helps to break up any vibration propagating along the length and width of the plinth. I'm an engineer but not a mechanical one, so I'm not really confident of that. But what I do know is that this was the best $200, minimal-work idea I could come up with.
