I have NO idea!

Postby JeroenB44 » 30 Mar 2012 20:23

Hello i've got an Sony PS-LX700P and i basically haven't got a clue what to do. I got the thing itself and a cable and my questions are like: where do i put the power supply? speakers?
I grew up with cd-players (i'm 18) so i don't really know where to start.
Can anyone help me? I know this is kind of a weird topic, but really don't know anything. If you told me these things could fly, i would believe you!

Greets Jeroen.

It can't fly.

I believe this turntable is part of the Sony XO-700 budget combo system. When connected to the sytem it is fed with a regulated DC power supply; do you have the rest of the system ?

If not, the service manual is in the library, you may be able to manufacture an alternative supply for it. You will then need a pre-amp/amplifier set up to drive speakers.

Since this is only a budget TT you would probably do better dumping it and looking for a better alternative upon which to start building a system.
Regards

Kelvin

They don't fly...
If it doesn't have its own power supply, the effort of finding one or building one may be more than its worth, since typically such tables are pretty low end. Sorry to have to agree with the suggestion of getting something else, if possible. On the other hand, if you are a DIY type, the challenge might appeal to you.

someone is selling the complete hi fi for £15 in england
http://surrey.olx.co.uk/vintage-sony-st ... -224664232

my last hi fi was a generic aiwa z1800, and i found that when i got my thorens turntable and tried to test it in the old aiwa hi fi it was barely audible as the phono equalizer was in the aiwa turntable and not in the hi fi itself, which was strange, so if you get it up and running into a standard hi fi, then plug it into a CD or line in input first, and if it's quiet and gives out very little power then plug it into the phono and see how that sounds. (because if your record player has it's own phono equalizer, and your hi fi also has it's own phono equalizer, it might sound mental and overdriven. maybe?)
you can probably get an adaptor from a pound shop which allows you to change the voltage to suit the turntables power supply, would that work guys? i dunno, just an idea.

i would also recommend getting something better and with a universal fit,
if you're not that bothered about it being top flight gear then maybe look at the dual CS 505, they're pretty cheap and available to get off ebay, £40-£70
very good for the money.

you will need to make sure that the amp you get has a proper phono stage, otherwise you will need to fork out for one seperately.

for good cheap amps, try rotel or arcam alpha, for arcam you will get a bit of a fight on your hands, but rotel are more easily available, £40-£100 depending on the model.

mission speakers are good and cheap, i got some 731 bi-wire-able speakers from cash converters for £35

do you already have a hi fi and speakers to run your turntable through?

and do you have the power supply or is it missing?
