The nut?

That big nut holding on the arm to the subchassis, how tight does it need to be?
I have read that some manufacturers recommend hand tight only.

That all depends on the turntables design. Rega recomends hand tight. The Rega plinth is so light when you try to tighten the nut to hard it crushes the plinth. In general I thihk you want the nut to be tightened as much as possible without damaging the plinth or arm board.......

Try it finger tight, then tighter. see if you can hear a difference. Generally, too tight is not so good.

Cheers Alec , I did think about doing this however it's a right royal pain to get at and the table usually needs tuning afterwards.
I might loosen it up a little and see if it makes a difference.
