Dual 1225 needle?

Postby drunkgunclechris » 27 Mar 2012 15:50

I am new to this forum and also new to turntables. A family friend gave me a Dual 1225 last night since I have a huge selection of vinyl and have a good player for it. He was getting rid of his Dual 1225 and said it was mine if I wanted it. I do not see a needle and wondered what is the model number for this and where do I find one? Is a needle a cartridge? I was born when CD players were coming out and vinyl was leaving so I am unclear of the terms. Any help on this would be great and thank you very much for helping me.

Hi Uncle Chris,
Looks like you should first make acquaintanceship with your new beast.
Do download first the owner's and service manuals available on this site: click on "Library", then "Dual", then 1225 and you will get all the info about it.
For the needle, it should be attached to the cartridge which is located under the front of the tone arm (if it is not missing...) Usually, most Duals are fitted with a "Shure" cartridge attached to the head shell holder, which is reachable by pushing backwards the chromed lever at the right of the tone arm: it will fall right in your hand.
The needle fits in the cartridge, and might also be missing...but can be found at various on-line shops (try "Needle doctor" or "Garage-a-Record",etc.)
Do you see a cartridge when you push the lever?
What is written on it?
That's a beginning...
Will gladly help answering further questions...

Good luck,

Hugh.

I have pulled off the head shell holder. It is a green color half box with a post coming at an angle on the button. The letters on it are
EE
MM II

I looked at garage a records and the other place and did not find it. Thanks
