Amy Winehouse back to black , which one?

There is two on different lables. Universal Republic – B0008994-01 and Universal Records – 173 412 8, Island Records Group – 173 412 8. The first is US and the second UK.
Is there any difference? I've read US vinyl can be touch and go.

The US one is atrocious the UK one is bad but has a better cover and package.. There both pretty horrific examples of modern day recording, a great pity for such a talented artist..

Beggars the question yet again , how do final releases get past the actual band/artist sounding do bad.. Do they simply not care or like the label are they they more interested in how it sounds on the radio and on an ipod..

There was an interview with Duffy a year or two ago and she said how impressed she was with the production of her new album, specifically how 'amazing' it sounded when they had put all the compression on it, so now you know!

Jesus profanity's... What do they play it back to her on, a pair of Logitech computer speakers!!

This also brings up the issue of why its happening at production stage

My understanding from comments from Bob Ludwig is that no form of compression should be used at production level. Its the masterers call and if he has clean uncompressed final mixes with plenty of headroom he can do his job properly. If the producers and engineers have applied compression at this stage he cant recover any dynamics and never will be able too.

Seems the producers now are just rolling over to please the artist who with no understanding probably finds the final mix too "thin" and wants it fixed before it goes to be mastered...

Seriously???.. Its an awesome album from a seriously classy artist.. That recording though has been converted into mud... Such a shame..

TBH I hope BBC or someone release the sessions or Glastonbury recordings..

Awsome in deed, it arrived today with what seems to be a white gritty dust in the cardboard sleeve and as a result scratched when I tried to extract the record.
Is this normal?

copression is a standard tool in the sound engineers box, but it really should be used in the mix on individual tracks / groups in order to maintain a consistant level. Compression at a mastering stage removes dynamic range and just makes the LP sound louder. It is quite often done solely for this purpose, as to the kids, louder means better!
