Well, compliance at 10Hz could be higher still than that, based on VTF range. Obviously, this is very different from the original. But no reason to doubt Jico's spec. It's a very different arm matching proposition too. So, surprising as a replacement, i think.

Not so surprising perhaps, if as I suspect, the SC35C is a V15Vx in drag!

Inspired by this thread i just ordered a M70BX at Williamthakker, which should be a hifi version of the old M-35 series. A good ol` Shure, made in USA.

Just got a pretty useful accessory from Needle Doctor - the Shure RPP635 labeled as the M35 series hardware. Frankly - i ordered this because i have managed to acquire a number of SME bayonet headshells that lacked cart wires.Kits actually pretty useful : brush for cleaning stylus , couple of lengths of bolts , several washers ,small phillips screw driver for the bolts ,3.3 gram plate/weight.four appropriately coloured headshell wires, and most importantly a stylus guard that fits the standard SC-35C stylus , the JICO SAS and the M70BX. Downsides - well - the plate and the bolts are not non-magnetic -so probably not the best for use with MC carts.

I wonder if the SC35C generator would sound better, since it has a lower induction than the M70BX http://www.shure.com/idc/groups/public/ ... ges_ug.pdf

I think you're right about the generators certainly being different and although it looks like a JICO SAS for the SC35C would fit mechanically - but what the audible result of that pairing would be is a real question mark ? Likewise - wouldn't expect to be able to interchange 35/70 series styli with each other - they might "fit" -they will probably make sound - but the generators have to be really different. I do think the 70 series is probably a little more compatible with the majority of medium mass arms than the SC35C stylus is (apparently the 35 is the MM equivalent of a DL-103 -really sings with high mass arms).

The SC35C generator actually has a lower induction than the V15lll. It could be a killer with the SAS.

The SC35C has the exact same inductance specification as the V15VxMR

The M70BX has the same inductance as the M97xE

Both get excellent results with the SAS - but as can also be seen on that Shure spec sheet -the differing bodies require differing loading... and with the SAS thrown in, achieving a neutral tone might require some work with the loading.

Hmm i may be nitpicking, but the M70BX has 600 mH, and the M97xE has 650 mH. So not the same generator.

There are variances of over 10% within a particular body type...

I've measured two V15VMR's with inductance of 312mH and 349mH respectively...
I also have two Me75p's with one measuring 550mH and the other 700mH (!) - seems to me that they swapped body types during the production life of this model.

Shure seem to have had only about 5 different body types in total (since the 70's) - although they had a lot more than 5 cartridges!

Body types (using best known "cartridge" - keep in mind at least +/10%)
V15VxMR 1000ohm 420mH
V15VMR 850ohm 330mH (narrow shank)
V15III/IV 1350ohm 500mH (narrow shank)
M97 1550ohm 650mH (M97HE was 700mH)
M70 600ohm 700mH (some variants - 650ohm 720mH)
???? 1350ohm 520mH (1000e, some variants of Me75p, V15HRP, and others)

bye for now

A SC35C with a SAS would probably bring you close to a V15VxMR for cheap. The only issue i see, is that it looks like Jico use their standard cantilever on the SAS for the SC35C http://stylus.export-japan.com/product_ ... ts_id=1495

Just checked a new SC35C; 405/415mH & 970-990 ohm
And, with some "adjustment"(plastic-cutting), the M92-M111 stylus-series will fit.

Makes no sense... - SAS is a description of the combined cantilever/needle construct... best described on the Japanese SAS page: http://shop.jico.co.jp/sas/

They do make styli with the Microridge Namiki stylus on the standard cantilever such as their VN5MR (stylus for V15VMR) - non SAS version...

I think they just messed up with the photos...

And can confirm that it sounds groovy 8) great with a $ 50 fleabay stylus for "V15-IV-HE" on my Luxman..!
