£150 for the Planar 3 ( lightly used ) in 1991. About the same for the OL250 arm plus rewire 10 years later. £80 on an AT150Ea cartridge at about the same time. £110 on a new 24V motor a few days back. £3 on a home made leather mat yesterday.

Ariston RD11s
Syrinx PU-2
Nagaoka MP-50
AT32
AT30e

£250

Sold Nagaoka MP-50 £300

Bought Pink PT Too (no psu) with Zeta £45

Sold PT Too £160

Had armboard made and and had zeta fitted £80

Sold PU2 £200

Bought Lyra Lydian £200

So technically this turntable has paid me £85. However with the proceeds from the forthcoming sale of the 2 AT carts, i will add a hercules supply and new motor. then hopefully i'll be about break even, and have a fantastic sounding set up.

The last cream 301 grease bearing and Ortofon RKG 12" arm was free but I insisted on paying something which was UKP60, after which 400 good quality records was thrown in.

Some years before, I bought a scruffy-looking Micro MR-711 from a bloke at a flea market and paid 90quid UK which included the MA-202L arm. While stripping it for refurbishing, I found a Micro cartridge and 2 unused styli inside the plinth. This was the most I ever paid for a turntable.

My first 301 also cost almost nothing - like 50p UK together with its hardcover handbook. That's the one in my avatar.

So I guess I live in turntable heaven

Things are much tighter nowadays with really silly money being paid for so-so stuff.

I got mine Philips 877 @ garbage store, did some trades. Cleaned everything possible, worked very good for almost 18 years.Recently bought new stylus, but I would like to install Grado Black cart, to learn how to adjust everything(and how to maintain a TT) and to continue to listen to LPs....

I put this together (all used gear) roughly 23 years ago:

- Mission 775 SM turntable: $0 (or pretty close: perks of working in a hi-fi shop).

- Mission 774 arm: $75 (see above)

- Signet TK10ML cartridge: $65 (see above)

- Replacement dustcover: $40 (shipped, from Mission UK)

- Replacement drive belts (3): $20 (shipped, from Mission UK)

Total (approx.): $200

This is what I've been using ever since. Based on as-new value (around $2.5k in early-1980s dollars), it's the priciest front-end component I've ever owned. From an out-of-pocket standpoint, it's the cheapest by an order of magnitude...I couldn't buy a beaten-up, first-generation Linn, sans arm/cart, for that little. And I love every needle-drop

Dual 1229 - $200, does not work (very very very many repairs required)
Pioneer PL-200X - $60, needed a new stylus and some light soldering, works quite well

Before Christmas I bought off eBay a Technics SL-120 without tone arm. I paid £50 Sterling and collected the TT as the seller was only a few miles away. I then fitted an ex demonstration Roksan Tabriz tone arm, cost £100, and a new Ortofon 2M Red cart, cost £80. I'm new to this TT and vinyl game but just love it.

Total TT cost £230 Sterling. I might upgrade to to a 2M Blue this year.
