I used to be a huge R.E.M. fanatic. I have Chronic Town through Out of Time. I also have a couple bootlegs, several 12" singles & the singleactiongreen 7" box set. They really lost me with Automatic for the People. Reveal is the only album I like after Out of Time.

I'm right there with you, almost exactly. Automatic for the People was OK. I saw them on the Monster tour and enjoyed it, though I didn't really like the record. I only love Out of Time and before. Fables had to grow on me a bit.

Deep, dark, black jazz, if there is such a thing. Most of their albums have a late-night, rain-swept deserted city-scape feel, where this album is more of a desolate, fog-choked forest at daybreak vibe. Very sparse music, lots of space. And it sounds best when it's turned up really loud.
I know it's only rock & roll, but I like it.

Think REM seem to have that effect on a lot of people.. Loved everything up to and including Green but they lost me after Out of Time - everything seemed to get too laid back and forgettable.. Saw then on the last UK tour and had the almost exact conversation with everyone around me

Bit of Porcupine tree this morning..

New Order's Power, Corruption, and Lies.

There were a couple of copies of this bouncing around the DJ booth at college. Mine went missing for a while, but I wound up with one with a good one upon graduation. It's in surprisingly good shape.

Heard this for the first time yesterday. Can't believe it's eluded me until now. Interwoven guitar rock at it's best.

MATIA BAZAR - Tango:

Image

I think, I'd like to get more of MATIA BAZAR, earlier LPs- from 70's
ANTONELLA RUGGIERO - a heavenly voice...and early MATIA BAZAR was a classical italian progressive rock band ....
Haven't come across or seen anywhere ANTONELLA RUGGIERO solo LPs...

Before that:

QUEEN - A Night At The Opera...

This album belonged to my parents, it has superb sound and is in near mint condition. Wonderful performances of Debussy and Ravel. It boasts "Full Frequency Stereophonic Sound" or "ffss" and it does indeed. Made in Great Britain.

Under the playing instructions, it says, among other things, "This record must only be played on stereophonic equipment which includes:

A light weight pickup with a tracking weight of not more than 4 grams."

I didn't know that in the olden days there were turntables that would track at 4 grams!
