I suppose this isn't going to be the easiest introduction to Mr Davis, but I decided to get something that's out of my comfort zone for a change. NM.
Just a quick word on "Bitches Brew" as an intro to Miles Davis.
I like the Davis "Fusion" period albums that bracket "BB", "In Silent Way"(1969) and "A Tribute to Jack Johnson" (1971), a great deal. I have, however, never been able to get my head around "Bitches Brew".
I know "BB" is supposed to be THE Miles Davis fusion album and perhaps THE defining fusion album, period, but it sounds like disconnected riffs, bleeps and boops to me. NOT saying it is bad, just saying I don't get it.
If "Bitches Brew" clicks for you, great. If not, don't give up on fusion nor Miles Davis. Be willing to try other Davis albums and experiment with other fusion like "Weather Report" or Herbie Hancock's "Head Hunters".
IMHO, YMMV and all that.
