ROME by Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi. A tribute of sorts to Morricone, they've gone so far as to feature session musicians and vocalists who worked with the maestro himself. Featuring vocals by Jack White and Norah Jones. Fantastic mood music.
Van Cliburn playing Beethoven Piano Concerto #3, with Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy. RCA LSC-3238. a "dynaflex" LP which is very thin. Pleasantly surprised with its very good sound and freedom from warping (just like it says in its marketing text).
Van Cliburn takes it at a slow tempo savoring the lower midrange and bass of the piano. His deliberate pace puts the slow movement on the brink of falling apart. But there is a certain beauty to savoring the musical phrases all along the concerto. Quite different from the almost inexorable interpretation by Gary Grafmann on RCA Victrola. but both are effective in different ways.
