Of course, mine is second-hand and required a new tonearm and was missing the 45 adapter and original rubber mat, as well as the dustcover and its hinges...

I notice on Amazon new SL1200 are now going for about (funny cosmic twist?) $1200.

Congratulations on finding yours!

I did not know they were going out of production but managed to buy a brand new 1210 mkII a week ago.One of the last ones to get hold of in Scandinavia.Gave 580£ for it.I sat looking at the box with misty eyes and could not believe my luck.
It's come to a good home,we are going to grow old together.
The only thing is that it came with bad interconnect cables but I will
be using a Denon DL-160 on it and will be changeing the cables later.
Got some better cables from KABUSA.

Snagged the last new one I could find here in Norway, produced october '10! Used to have two of them way back, but stupid enough sold them for Numark TTX's 7 years ago, wich I recently sold (even had to replace a motor on one of them after only a few years) I had the money for another one, but will have to find a gently used one at a time.

Love it with a Shure V15 V-MR I got second hand (+ a JICO S.A.S. needle) for it. Only "issue" is I can't get it to follow the arc on the Technics Bearwald protractor. But it seems I have got it to work with the Stupid Loefgren, if that makes sense?

Not sure if I want to get the Sumiko HS-12 for it to be able to follow the Bearwald if that pushes the resonance further down with the V-MR: it's low enough already with the stock headshell. How "bad" would the result be? The V-MR is supposed to work with every kind of tonearm with the stabilizer brush down I heard, but I'm not sure if it would be ideal to put more mass on there.

No need for endless tweaking. If the add-ons were necessary at all, Technics would have made them available under their own name, or would come as standard. Just make sure the cart matches the tone arm, such as the Audio Technica AT440MLa or even its more expensive sister the ATN-150MLX. I use these two very extensively, never felt the need for all them sorts of gadgets. The original tone arm is good enough. All these so called improvements are a slap in the face of the SL-1200 designers. A SL-1200 is not a REGA, thank God for that. A basic REGA needs all sorts of improvements because it is a piece of junk.

Bye!

For all VE members who are lucky enough to snag the remaining NIB SL-1200s check out this thread and make sure you've got the right RCA leads...... and not be surprised with the sound when you do set up the tt.....

Just went in to my local DJ shop. Kid behind the counters said that a Mk6 release is in the works. Any news?

Thanks Cobra2. Unfortunately that article is nearly 4 years old. I would be the first to get a new one. I have a mk2 which my son wants. I would get a few upgrades from KAB USA where I bought my first one. A good friend mine wants to replace his ancient one which was used for DJing before he got it. He is anal about condition even though this looks mint to me.

Looks like Matshuita Corp. at last discovered that they had sold the SL1200 too cheap for many years and decided to only sell the MKg5 (or whatever it's called) for close to double what the usual MK2 had cost. That should be good business for them as the difference between MK2/MKg5 isn't huge or at least does not reflect the price difference.

As the SL1200 is so popular on the used market wouldn'ẗ it be advisable for Matsushita to continue producing at least one model maybe with some upgrades? Several other companies like Inspire(Monarch) also produces their own modded versions of the SL1210 so this should be a still viable market. Having one or more models of the SL1200/1210's would be good positioning of the Matsushita brand in the coming years.

I bought a brand new SL-1210mk2 a few weeks ago from a Norwegian shop (there are still some new ones in the country)and is curious on the date of manufacture. I'm still not able to understand the prod. year / date based on this explanation.
---------------
New-format serial number: GE4FB001154 (SL-1200 manufactured June 2004)
The first digit shows the year when the SL-1200 was manufactured, while the month of manufacture is indicated by the letter following it. Months are coded as letters between A and L inclusive; A indicates January, B indicates February, and so on.
---------------

Can anyone help me :Ser.no GEOCF01132R.

thanks Jan
