What a cable!

It's not just wide, it's ultra wide
It's not just neutral, it's completely neutral
It's not just fast, it's scarily fast

'The sense of reality and being there is palpable'

Up for sale as the guys ticker couldn't take all the excitement

I have trouble with some of what ends up being called "snake oil".

Is a super expensive, wildly over-enginered, stunningly complex turntable really "snake oil"?

Compared to a glow in the dark plastic sea shell or a meter of wire that costs $10k or, my personal favorite, a phone call in the night that makes one's Hi Fi have Higher and more Fi, a super kilo-buck turntable is at least a product that has to be engineered, built, packed and shipped.

In autos it is like the Bugatti Veyron, silly expensive but impressive technology. I am entertained that it exists but even if I could afford one I'd still probably own a Jeep.

At that price i'd better buy a state-of-the-art Neumann cutting lathe. Two of them.

Not all super expensive TTs are really "over-engineered". Some of them are just looks and mass, no real revolutionary or fancy engineering involved.

I can grab two Rega P3 turntables, replace the base for a 30Kg marble base, add some fancy gold plates, mount the two motors around a gold-plated subplatter, add a 10Kg matte acrylic platter on top, add a SME V tonearm and sell all for a huge amount of money.

Will it sound well? Probably!! Is it complex? No. Over-engineered? No. Innovative? Hell no! Really superior to a well-mounted EMT studio turntable? No!!

...but is it "snake oil" on the level of Peter Belt's bits of mylar foil with a ground wires on them or anybodies "magic dots" or strange phone calls in the night from Machina Dynamica?

the original snake oil is the magic tibetan bells that make y system sound better or some cosmic energy device that projects astral energy fields...

the specific 650K TT is pure rubbish, because the technology involved is just about the same with any decent TT.

even teragaki charges less for his prototype TTs and at least he has some truly innovative designs executed in state of the art quality
