Michell Tecnoweight Won't Balance

Postby galacticz00 » 24 Jun 2011 03:24

Hi
I have just got the Michell tecnoweight for my RB250 it looks a great quality item but even using the larger of the 2 counterweights I can't get the arm to balance out. I've seen a heavier counterweight advertised in the US but not in the UK. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Cheers

What cartridge are you trying to balance?

If you have both standard weights they should be able in theory cover a range of carts from 3-13g.

Are you saying that your cart is over 13g?

Cartridge is Denon 103 with after market top plate. I could just balance the arm with the Rega counterweight at its furthermost distance but the heavier tecno weight gets no where near. If I put it at its furthest setting the cartridge tracking force measures 4.5 grms which isn't much good. I have emailed Michell but have had no response. I have seen an extra heavy weight advertised on ebay US for about £50.

Any suggestions for modding the existing weights would be appreciated.

Mine wouldn't zero balance a 10 gram cartridge either, but it would track at the prescribed 1.5 grams. You can move the weight further back and it does help.
