Rega Planet - Clicking Noise When Paused

I just picked up a used Original Rega Planet. One owner, Orig box & remote. Unit had been passed down to the owners son who used it sparingly. It was sent to me from approx 100 miles away via Priority Mail and had been double boxed.

While playing this it seemed just fine. That is until I paused it. What occurs is a "mechanical clicking noise" every revolution. To reiterate the issue, this only happens when the disc is paused. During normal operation, (play mode) there is no noise. I've heard and read of various mechanical issues with this unit over time but somewhat ignored them or thought it wouldn't happen to me. It's not really something I care to deal with either. Reason being I would have to listen to this racket until I hit "play" again. The only other option would be to stop the disc and then skip forward to the song I had been listening to.

So, if anyone else experienced this with their Rega (any model or any other Mfg's CD player for that matter) please make me aware of your experience and how you corrected it.

Look to see if something on the bottom of the "platter" is touching something - possibly the pulley.

I've had more than one CD player that was noisy when paused. In the absence of another Planet owner chipping in, have you tried asking Rega what they consider normal?

Personally, I would pull the cover and see if I could isolate exactly what is making the noise. But, Im not recommending or suggesting you do so. It's at your own risk. You may want to ask at one of the sites that isnt turntable specific and has a forum dedicated to DIY and/or digital.
