I stumbled across this site just a few minutes ago and it seems to have a lot of valuale information.
As the topic says, I've got an old Sansui sr525 that's unusable, so it's been taken apart. I'd like to use the motor for another application - driving a camera dolly slowly down tracks for timelapse photography. I know there are better solutions, but I'd like to pursue it a bit more.
Anyway, when fully disassembled and with no load the spindle spins very inconsistently - taking 3/4 "jerky" movements to complete a rotation. Is the weightplate necessary to achieve smooth rotation? Acting like a flywheel? The motor is smooth otherwise.
Also, is there a way to power these things by battery? They'd both be DC, so maybe it's possible if I can up the voltage to 120ish...
Any thoughts?......thanks all!
