I use Roxio Toast with my wife's Mac but I need to migrate to a Windows solution to be able to use my computer. So Far it looks like Vinyl Studio is going to be my choice. I use an external USB A/D converter and they (like Roxio) seem to be cognizant of gain management. I have used their customer service and Paul (mentioned by an other poster) replied and was very helpful.
So far I have just recorded a couple of radio specials with Vinyl Studio. I have one more free record left. I will try this on an LP and if the track separation is as good as that in Toast I am buying it. At this point I recommend Vinyl Studio.
Vinyl Studio has a bit of a school-master aspect to it which is probably good for me. It forces you to name the file which you are going to record before it will let you proceed. They are going to make me into an organized person in spite of myself.
Thanks so much for recommending Vinyl Studio for Mac. I had downloaded 5 free trials of other apps none fo which worked for me. They either froze up or were too confusing or non-helpful. Some looked fancy but sucked. I tried Garage Band but it was kind of a backward way of ripping vinly & was very limited. This app is perfect! Not too fancy looking but it delivers. It has all the features I need & the helpful text ballons that pop up guided me along the way. It's a very intuitive program that's perfect for inexperienced, impatient, perfectionists... like me! Thanks again & I am no shill!!
