A review comparing the MP11, 2M Red and 2M Blue. I believe that the MP110 is the replacement for the MP11. I cant say if they sound the same but I have seen MP11's still available. I think it's a safe bet that the 110 would be fuller sounding than the Blue from everything I have read. But again, I dont own either cart.
I have been interested myself in the MP11 or 110. But Im enjoying my lowly Shure M97xe with stock stylus. Definitely a "warm" cart with very good bass and midbass that just reminds me of how vinyl sounded to me growing up. Ommisions/compromises are treble extension and fine detail that seems to be the focus of so many modern MM carts, especially the "budget" MM's, often at the expense of the low end. I think maybe that was exactly what Shure was going for with the M97, a warm "vintage" analog sound. It's not a cart for everybody and QC can be a problem but I think that anyone who uses an MM cart and is asking "where is the bass" and/or finds the modern budget carts to be too bright ought to consider trying the $55 (USD) M97xe. It is however probably a polar opposite to a cart like the 2M Blue or some of the brighter AT's. The Jico SAS is always a viable stylus upgrade as well which still would make the M97xe a sub $250 cart. Very popular combination (although I have read about some SAS QC issues lately, the M97 SAS being one of them).
