Tonearm/hex key

Postby rheis » 10 Jan 2012 23:49

I just bought a Pro-ject Essential TT and am very pleased with it. I found it a bit tricky to set up but it was worth persevering.

I'm just wondering about the tonearm. It isn't fixed and comes off very easily. I find it a little disconcerting as the four wires are so thin and delicate and could easily be damaged by the heavy arm and counterweight coming off its mount.

There are two hex keys supplied. The larger one is for locking the counterweight.
The manual does not specify the purpose of the smaller hex key, though. It does seem to fit a hole on top of the tonearm (which again is not pictured or mentioned in the manual.)

It would be ideal if this were indeed a lock to secure the tonearm! :) Can anyone tell me what the small hex key is for? (I don't want to force anything!)

The 2 most common points would be for the lifter height and the tonearm height.

Cheers,

The Pro-Ject arm tubes can be rotated for azimuth adjustment ... or atleast some of them, I dont know if all can. That may be the screw you are referring to. But as alec states, the hex wrench may also fit the tonearm lift and/or screws for arm height adjustment (VTA).
