Help build me a stereo

Greetings everyone, I have just purchased a pristine Sansui SR-525 TT. I am relatively new to this world, and would like suggestions on compatible components to complete this vintage set up. I prefer to keep it all the Sansui and all vintage. Finding vintage speakers seems easy enough, its the amp that is puzzling. What type etc. Would be best. Thanks in advance

There are a lot of Sansui receivers and integrated amps from the 1970s that would be great with that turntable. The 9090DB was quite a beast and in good condition now go for a premium price. The G-series of receivers are also very nice. There are several AU-series integrated amps that would be nice to have. Back in the 1970s I had a Sansui 661 teamed up with a pair of BIC Venturi Formula 4s. Was quite the kick-ass system back in the day.

I understand your desire to build an all Sansui vintage system. Be advised that Sansui speakers don't have the same following as their electronics.

For the most part their speakers weren't that good. Of course your ears may tell you something different. For a variety of opinions on vintage and Sansui gear and speakers check out http://www.audiokarma.org

Go to the Sansui manual section and download the '75-76 Sansui Catolog that is there. I have the AU-7070 / TU-7070 combo that is just great. The ##1 series receivers still seem to be flying under the radar a bit (I have an 881 that has some issues so I really can't speak to it 1st hand). I also had an AU-4400 which was a great small integrated (and unique for Sansui in the silver finish).

I've had Advent/1's that are the smaller brother to the New Large Advents. EPI100's are another common speaker that has a loyal following (have a pair) and Dynaco A-25's (have a pair). All sound great with the Sansui stuff.

If you want to do it cheap haunt the local thrift stores. I see a fair bit of Sansui there. Unfortunately a lot of the speakers, if they have removable grilles, have had the cones or dust caps poked by kids (and a few moron adults) fingers. If the suspensions are shot you can redo them. In speakers I see quite a bit of Paradigm, Infinity, Energy which are OK brands. Beware of big retailers house brands, they usually suck.

.... as far as speakers go, the Advents, EPI's (3 sets now), Dynacos, Yamaha NS-625, Energy Pro-22's, Paradigm 3SE-Mini, Paradigm center channel, Wharfedales (2 pairs), B&W's, Merak's, etc. have come from thrift shops over the last 3-years or so. I've had just as much luck getting good speakers and components for that matter (my Sansui AU-777, AU-4400, Technics SU-8080, NAD, various turntables, etc.) from thrift shops as I have from sources such as craigslist. But you have to be in the right place at the right time and yes I have seen speakers that sit for a while 'age quickly' at the hands of kids, etc.

Other sources I have had moderate success with - estate sales and co-workers.
