Some affection for that old motor suspended by rubber band thing. As well as modifying it slightly for 100V when I moved to Japan, until recently the whole deck was solar powered. 40W panel on the roof, feeding via a charge controller into a deep-cycle marine battery, itself powering a 100VAC / 300W pure sine generator from which the humble motor drew it's life. No mains frequency issues in that setup

With regards the 24v. I just upgraded mine tonight and added the white belt. The difference is stunning. But I'm not sure which component had the greatest effect! I've got my suspicions that the white belt played a strong part in the new sound and I'll explain why in another post soon. (But the thing is, I didn't test it with the new belt before I upgraded the motor as I didn't want to stretch it by fitting it twice.)
btw, the way in which the PCB is held in place by the cover screws actually seems much better than before.
