Well I don't have anything really flash or exotic, however after about 60 mods it sounds really good as far as I'm concerned (and a few audio guys who've heard it) but it is cheap all up.
In OZ dollars
Old Pioneer PL (I think) 513X $25.oo
Cartridge bought from US on ebay old stock but no name $10.00
(the cart looks like rubbish but actually sounds better that any other cart I own and that includes 2 Shures, Cambridge P77, Audio Technica, and Stanton. I teach LP to CD classes and bought 10 of them to sell to my students with dud carts.
Cables (home grown) $6.00
Phono Amp (DIYed) $15.00
Feet (DIYed consisting of shot glasses filled with water, squash balls and cedar bases with ball bearing feet) $20.00
Sandstone Slab $12.00
Glues, timber, bluetac, non slip rubber matting, cork, lead wheel weights for damping outer ring of platter etc $35.00
Total Cost $133.00 Oz or about 40 pounds
Please note that lots of bits were recyled from stuff I had in the shed, such as timber and screws etc.
Total music effect -Priceless, easily the best TT I have ever had and I think that totals about 15
Future mods, I ll probably replace the 240V Ac motor with a DC stepper from a floppy drive or similar, though the AC one seems more than OK with all the mods I have made to damp it.
