Integrated Amplifier, Pre/Power or Receiver - POLL

Postby JaS » 15 Dec 2011 13:02

Integrated, multiple box pre/power, monster AV amplifier or just a headphone amp? I thought it might be interesting to see what amplification everyone is using in their main systems :)

Oops forgot to list mine

Heybrook Signature Pre-Amp/Power supply and two Heybrook Signature Stereo Power Amplifiers/Power supplies. It sounds fantastic, but it takes up 3 shelves on my rack. If only I could find an integrated that sounds as good - something nice and compact like my old Cyrus 2 8-[

I went from Yamaha A960 integrated to Yamaha C4/ M4 pre/power combo. Love the phono stage and built in MC capability and haven't really even looked at another unit since.

Always in a state of flux.

Right now "serious" listening happens with a Bottlehead Quickie rigged as a headphone amp. Got a Dynaco ST-70 power amp that will get a rebuild, perhaps this winter.

The poll however seems to be aimed at what is happening NOW not what we wish were happening.

I do use some powered speakers, older Cambridge Audio, but I consider the Bottlehead driving AKG cans as primary.

Roksan Kandy pre and Roksan kandy powers. Needed to drive the B&W 802's properly. Love them. Flexible, powerful (although slightly 'up front') and wonderful build quality.

Yamaha AS1000 integrated. The best integrated I have owned and very overlooked. Nice 'old school retro' appeal with a neutral presentation and yet power in abundance. Huge size and weight. Real drive and built to an exceptional standard outside and inside.

Yo amplifer freaks:

Current setup is a Hafler DH-101 preamp, with a McIntosh MC-250 driving a Dynaudio home brew speaker system with passive crossovers for everything above 400 Hz, and a Dyna ST-120 driving a homebrew Dynaudio woofer (30W100) with passive crossover for everything below 400 Hz.

Also a homebrew volume control for the ST-120 to match levels with MC250.

Wierd enough for you?

And good luck from the old bootlegger, (Home brew is BEST, and I don't pay no steenking taxes!)

Sorry that is Cambridge Sound Works from back when Henry Kloss was around, not Cambridge Audio.

Wonder if these two companies have tried wacking each other with lawers over these confusing names.

I'm using a Marantz 7c pre and a Marantz 8b amp. I inherited these from my father. In the past I've used a Kenwood KR-9600 (used it quite a bit). Also used a Phase Linear 200 for an amp.
