Very nice find, and definitely worth rebuilding.
Is there anything printed on the motor housing?

Cheers,
Alec

Have to agree with Alec, a very nice find and for little money.

check thro the old Ariston posts, there seems to be some differences in the possible power supply requirement, a look inside the deck should reveal if the original Papst motor is still fitted. If so it would look like a 24V AC power supply is required.

I thought the RD11 and RD90 Superieur models were powered by DC motors?

it has dc motor label on the back says power consumption 3.3va,,also has two pots and switch on left bottom of plinth, pluged last night 3v power adapter, but it did not move, wonder if it has to be exactly 3.3v or motor is burned,or something else, tonearm itself is beautiful, thanks

Hi

If the power adaptor is a charger, this will not work. You should be using a 3.3Vdc power supply.

The 2 pots are probably for fine speed adjustment.

Old lubricant in both the platter bearing and possibly the motor as well, requires cleaning out and replacing.

Have you tried starting the motor without the platter belt?

Indeed the original RD11 and 90 superior models are DC motors. The Papst motor assembly has a rectifier circuit built in.

see, the Ariston thread 'RD90 Superior pics', Jan 09.

Hi guys. I have owned an RD11 superiieur from new and after several years of "neglect" have rediscovered the joys of vinyl! Plus i supply additives to the PVC industry! A few questions.its fitted with an sme111s which was the original arm when low mass moving magnet cartriges were the craze. To me flimsy. Would i get a sonic improvemnt by switching to a rigid tube like linn rega rb700 sme4/5 - complete with decent mc cartrige?

Suspension looks "tired" with bushes looking worn /creep and springs unevel length when dismantling. Question- would linn components work? Can you suggest where i can get? Also any advice re motor/ power supply gratefully recieved because existing looks pretty crude to me!

Thanks for any help!!!

Best regards. Nino

I also bought one of these a few years ago with 'burnt out motor' and no power supply. The motor was fine and just needed the rectifier and cap on the cct board replacing. I found a 24v a.c. power supply for about £10 on Ebay and this runs it fine. I also have a Source t/table with the same motor but this uses a 30v dc supply. The original Source p/supply was 36v. As already said the motor has on board rectification. As for springs Linn ones might be suitable although the Linn platter is quite a bit heavier, you would have to buy and try. The same for rubbers, you would be unlikely to find any originals but again Linn or even Thorens ones might fit as the earlier RD11,s had similar bushes. A fine t/table and well worth renovating.
