SL10 purchase question

Postby fmrnykr » 23 Nov 2011 04:18

I have an opportunity to purchase an SL10 with EPS-310MC, and all the necessary wires. Asking price 435.00 USD.

I can check it out at the owner's house. Owner says he's been using it for the past years and says it's in flawless condition.

Deal or no deal?

Thanks,

Bob

Deal, IMHO. That cartridge is what makes it so.
Will he come down to $400?

Cheers,
Alec

Alec,

I haven't discussed price with him yet. Just a couple of emails so far. It can't hurt to ask.

I'll let you know.

Thanks

Welcome to VE....... :)

Wow, it's 2/3 rds the 1980's MSRP of $620........

http://vintagetechnics.co.uk/turntables.htm

But as Alex mentions a deal for the cartridge that's becoming alcemized unobtanium..... :) Also depends on the remaining life / condition of the stylus. A couple of 310s from a VE member have been successfully retipped by Peter of Soundsmith:

So there is hope if the 310 is on its last facets.... :)

For some inspirational reading:

At this price I would expect original factory boxes / packing, instruction manual, factory blanking sheets and original cables.

Good luck and happy auditioning with some of your familiar undamaged vinyls..... :) :)

Fred and if you are not enamored with the size / form / wow / 310 factor consider an SL-QL1 ... :)

fscl,

Thanks for the welcome and the links. I'll be sure to ask many, many questions before I part with any money. If the unit looks like the photos he's posted it's a winner. That's only the surface, it's what's under the hood that counts.

I've found the owners who take great care of their units have been good people to buy from. I'll know this Friday what's what and I'll let everyone know.

Thanks again,
