Gyro with Orbe upgrades vs. Orbe

Postby johnfromnorwich » 25 Sep 2006 16:21

I'm running a 2002 Gyro SE (DC motor + VC power supply) which has been modded with the Orbe 'kit' (platter, spindle, clamp, bearing, damping). However, a visiting (301 owning) plumber asked me if it was an Orbe and it ocurred to me that I coudln't articulate what the differences would be after the mods. It sounds great but does anyone know if there are any significant diferences and if so, what they are? Thanks = John

Never compared the two soundwise but I am told the orbe has the edge on bass depth and resolution.
As for construction the orbe has an extra stage of isolation, it has two perspex plinths one atop the other.

the dual spider tidys up the bass, orb motor mounting cleans up top end, still not convinced over servo controlled motor, even in a side by side comparison
