Speed Box II and older R(P)M-4

I bought a (used) Speed Box II before I even checked if I could use it on my RM-4. Apparently it's old enough that the leads to the turntable are hard wired, which will make injecting the Speed Box into the mix more interesting. :?

Has anyone experimented with adding enough jacks to cuts in the power cable so a SB could be hooked up? Or soldered the leads directly? Is there some other reason besides the connections Pro-Ject provides why this would not work on my turntable (resistance/voltage/etc.)? I plan to use these items till I drop or win the lottery, so I'm not much persuaded by preserving resale value -- though if it's smarter to sell on the SB I would make out much better by not cutting any connections off it.

The Speedbox is designed to work with 16V units. The S/E version of the Speedbox will work with mains power models and is a worthy addition.

Hmm. Thank you, Henley. At more than US$600, the SE does not make sense for my setup. I think I would be better off (financially and audibly) if I tradedd on a different Pro-Ject model which could use the Speed Box that I have -- or if I traded all of it on an entirely different make and model. *sigh*
