Just picked up a Nakamichi RX-505 and have been recording some albums onto TDK SA from the Anniversary and the sound quality is very very good....and the b****r turns the tape round as well :D :D but unfortunately not the vinyl :?

I'd forgotten how good the Naks were ..... Nakamichi the new Pink Triangle!

rolleye,

I totally agree with the Nakamichi/Pink Triangle marriage, I use a CR-7 and a Revox B215-S(suppose that makes it a menage) alongside my Annie.

Cassette can and does sound very good, think TDK MA-XG/MA-R, That's Suono, Sony Super Metal Master and Maxell Metal Vertex via a Nakamichi, Revox or Tandberg and the results are astonishingly good. The downside is that these blanks are long out of production and the remaining stock is becoming very expensive, just look at the prices on fleabay.
However you don't need metal, even a halfway decent chrome has it's merits and some of the type one ferrics surprise with their strengths.

If you enjoy tape - either cassette and R2R - come and join us over at http://www.tapeheads.net

Agree with all the above comments, I use a Dragon and a ZX7 both of which I have owned since the 80's.

Yup, that's why all my vinyl (and cartridge) were in such good condition after 25 year; I had a Nakamichi BX125 cassette recorder with which I recorded all my albums (invariably onto TDK SA-90s).
Sold it a couple of years ago but I still have a few SA-C90s knocking around if anyone wants them...

Thanks for the invite Stuart, i'll pop across later today. Agree about the price of cassettes though  I managed to pick up some TDK-MA (used once but in good condition) and was a little suprised at the price.

rolleye,

It'd be great to see you over there, I'm responsible for a half decent turntable, tonearm and cartridge gallery at Tapeheads - that might be even more to your liking than the tapes! In order to see the images you'd have to register....guaranteed it'll be worth your while.

I am always on the look out for a decent tape deck down the lines of a Nak, Studer, Tascam, Revox etc if only to 'enjoy the moment' after a long time apart. I've just got back in to FM after what seems a life of DAB and relishing every minute. Noticed an RX505 on E-Bay, but it looks pretty shagged to me.

Hope to join you one day.

Last tiem home I noticed various TDK etc in Maplins of all places and we have a local HiFi dealer with a reasonable supply of blanks.

satanfriendly,

German Ebay is a great place to look for the cassette decks you mention, parts too. Brian Reeves in greater Manchester is the man for Revox repairs.

Pioneer, Denon, Aiwa and Sony are well worth consideration too.

i'm a great nakamichi fan. got two CR5s and a DR2. Two too many i think, may list them here soon and just keep a cr5. The cr5 is the same as a the cr7 except no azimuth control (still the only problem i ever had with my cr7 was the azimuth)
