Debut Iii Output Cables, Soldered Or Din?

Postby Hawkeye666 » 31 Aug 2011 02:11

Before I take the cover off the bottom of my Debut to check how the Phono cabling is connected, does anyone know off-hand if the Debut has hard wired cabling or a DIN connector of some sort?

Anyone replaced their cabling on a Debut?

Hi, I just did that to mine about 2 weeks ago. The original was soldered in place. Not a real nice job either. I put RCA jacks and a banana plug in the small housing so I could use any cables I wanted. Right now it is Alpha Snakes. When I examined the original cables they were of better quality than I expected. Double shielded with what appeared to be plated copper wiring. I did not measure the capacitance of the originals nor the AS ones, but on the preamp I had to add 100pf for everything to sound proper.

Did you drill holes in the housing and then screw the connectors through that? Or how did you attach the RCAs and banana plug female ends?

Hi Yes, I drilled holes in the plastic cover. If you go that route, be sure to make note of where the inside parts are as you can easily end up with a hole in a place where the inside part of the jack interferes with the terminal strip.

I was thinking of wiring the terminal strip to RCAs mounted on an aluminum plate at the back.
