Just had a look at that site, very interesting. I was trying to do some research to identify an old Transcriptor that I have (bought new in the 70's, maybe 1978?). So far I haven't managed. Its at another location right now, so I can't check, but I'm almost certain that it was called Prisma Transcriptor on the little brass plate. It looks just like the Electronic transcriptors (not hydraulic) with the curved aluminium legs but I was astonished to see a bunch of these with a black base whereas mine is transparent plexiglass like the rest of it. I still have the original Michell arm, but the shop where I bought it recommended that I mount an SME arm on it, which I did.

Ever heard of a Prisma Transcriptor? (Being new on the forum, I was reluctant to open a new topic, so barged into this one)

Ah.

Swallow.... Lump.

Their previous website was made by yours truly. It started out in 1995 or so. I hosted it at my university, until it was kicked out (I got to stay). Shortly after it got adopted officially and became http://www.michell-engineering.co.uk. It remained virtually unchanged for over a decade.

So now it is gone. Including the Michell turntable gallery. Now that is a shame. I have to launch a renegade site then :wink:

To Bbrio1: please don't mix up Michell and Transcriptors. Their ways split after the Hydraulic Reference. So if it is a Prisma, then it is a Michell, and not a Transcriptors. Or a Transrotor.

I'll post pictures when I find the time.

Werner, never mind! There aren't many people who developed web pages for one of the HiFi greats, I'm well impressed.

New site's looking very good though

Werner, thanks for the info. I was scratching around on the internet to find a generic method for aligning the arm and stumbled on this great site. I'm toyiing with the idea of remounting the original arm since I have never tried it. Found exactly what I needed here, and you have cleared up an old miisconception.

Not to worry. Yours was a classic site. And the new developers called Pixel Point (look at the source code) have used page templates that are on a British compiled cd from eBay, they just swapped in images and text. I have the cd because I wanted an image they had. Great single image, low quality designed sites on the cd.

Michell have lost my respect in not informing you of the site change, not thanking you for your effort that supported them over the preceeding years, and not involving you in the design of the new (would have been a nice touch that has just backfired with my post here as a GyroDec owner). Sounds like the China Syndrome:

     a. Lets do it cheap.
     b. Lets be disrespectful of all those that supported us.
     c. Lets look like everyine else, because everyone else does.
     d. Management doesn't care, they have just shown it.
     e. Hey, lets ask Lisa in accounts to arrange a web site, saves money.
     f. People will buy Michell because of our history, except we just cut the mooring rope to our history.

Today I am embarassed to be an owner, I just lost the feeling I had of owning what I thought was a treasure, created by a special company. Well, they aint special no more. This is just one step away from moving their production and corporate worth to China.

'Wa we save on web site, we pass on you. We give you happy price on Dec.'

Good luck, you just lost me Michell.

If I knew I would elicit such a response I would never have posted the above.

You are far off the mark. I have a very good relationship with Michell Engineering, the company, and the family and employees as well.Upon their births my sons received a genuine GyroBear and TecnoBear, respectively.

It was I who released the maintenance of the original site many years ago, , urging the company to find someone in the UK for maintenance, and then to start the development of a new site.

I was informed a long time ago that this development had started. It only took (quite) a while, leading to today's surprise

So there is absolutely no reason for any embarassment or depletion of respect.

(There is no Lisa in accounts!)

I e-mailed and suggested a members forum on the site, i must say it`s a same the history in pictures is not on the site any more.

I haven't checked for that particular site, but if you're looking for sites no longer in existance, or previous versions of sites, don't forget the Wayback Machine.

My apology to Michell.

Werner, from your shocked email I wrongly concluded that they had gone and changed all digital communications without even letting you know. I am very glad to hear that they did.

You are a luminary supporter of all Michell owners here, and gracious in your time with support to what must seem idiotic questions from owners, especially mine. The simple and honest site you did for them spoke of someone who owned one, and was a big catalyst in my getting back into vinyl and now enjoying it so much.

But.

I still think that they should have built on your foundations and not just moved sideways with a fashionless site that looks like everyone else's. I am sure that Lisa in accounts could have done better if she was given more time. She only needed to look to the work done by John for inspiration. Create to inspire, build to last.
