Sony Ps-2350

Postby olddrum1 » 22 Jul 2011 01:17

I just came into possesion of a Sony PS-2350 belt drive semi-auto table. It is fair condition except that it does not return the arm at the end of play until the needle is on the lablel by about 1/2 inch. I have searched for a manual to little avail. Can someone help me with the adjustment of the arm?

Normally under the arm is a grub screw that is connected to the mechanism, i had a marantz TT that had exactly the same problem. I slackened the grub screw, adjusted back and bingo, problem solved. I think at some time in the TT's life it had been returning the tone arm automatically and someone had forced it, causing the screw to slip... sounds the same, not 100% sure on the sony though. Hope that helps enough until someone with knowledge of that TT comes along :D

Hi
the 'trip' mechanism is a simple mechanical system, there is a linkage from the arm that moves a small 'trip pawl' this in turn engages with the gear on the spindle, which then engages the main cam/auto mechanism.
I don't know exactly where the adjustment screw is, it will be somewhere at/around the end of the linkage (arm end most likely) and accessable from underneath the deck.

I have a Sony 1700 deck apart at present (1700 looks exactly like a 1350 which is very like the 2350, Sony numbering! :? )
I'm away from home for a few days, but when I return could have a look and post a piccy if that would help.

Hi,
sorry for late reply here are the pics though. !st general view of underside of deck Tonearm pivot bottom right

Below, 1st pic; Arm at rest. 2nd pic arm at pickup point.

The pickup link is the narrow shinier metal piece running roughly across the centre of the picture just below (and attached to) the white plastic piece. In the pics above you can see how it 's moved slightly to engage the auto mechanism. The thin wire is from the 'reject' button

Arm pivot shown at 'rest' then at 'auto pick up' point.

Finally close up of the adjustment screw, turning clockwise should delay pick up and anti-clockwise engage the auto sooner. It will be a bit of trial and error. but try quarter or half turns to start with.

Hope this helps, your deck should look something like this if not exactly, so hope it's of use. :)

Again, Thanks a million. I am traveling now so when I get back I will open the table up and see if I can get it adjusted.
