Dual Cs 505-4 Auto Stop Regulation

Postby vooko » 19 May 2011 11:36

Is it possible to regulate auto-stop? I have the record, which is a long recording and auto-stop off the turntable for a few seconds before the end of music.

Well, according to the service manuals, there should be an excenter, where the shut-off rod attaches to the movable tonearm segment on the underside, with which one can adjust the shut-off point to a radius between 116 and 122 mm.

Greetings from Munich!

P.S.: Hint: The older the Dual service manuals, the more explicit (usually, at least...). So in case one has got a model that has technically very similar predecessors, it can be wise to check the older manuals (like in this case for example the ones for the 505-1 or even the 504...) for more info...

Ok, let's see if I can make it a bit easier for you, then: Check the service manual for the 505-1 over there (on Lulabu's great archive): http://dual.pytalhost.eu/505-1s/

On the second page in the last illustration on the right side you'll see a point marked "S". That's where the excenter should be. And a verbal description in English can be found on the fourth page in the section titled "Starting and Shutting Off" as point 1b under adjustments.

But you'd probably best first measure the record in question, 'cause if the required radius was less than 116 mm, it would be out of the adjustment range anyway...

I read the service manual and took off the turntable platter, but the mechanism is deep, so I will not regulate anything.
Vielen Dank!

vooko: Yup, you'd have to lift the chassis out of the plinth to access the mechanics for the auto-stop.

Actually I performed this adjustment myself on my CS505-4 and it is dead simple. Nothing to be afraid of.

As lini mentioned, you will have to lift the chassis out of the plinth but that will be as difficult as it gets. Then you will easily find the excenter.

If you want to understand how the auto-stop mechanism works before adjusting the excenter, simply play with the arm back and forth and watch for the moving parts that trigger the stop switch. Straight and simple :)

OK, I find this excenter, but I can't move it  Please, help.
PS. Maybe WD-40 once again?

I don't think so, because this same problem is on few SP's

 WD-40 doesn't to help, I still can't turn the excenter screw, although I used quite a lot of strength to turn that.

Hmmm, I wonder whether that's actually a screw head - in the service manual (of the 505-1 and 505-2) it rather looks like that should be just a bolt... Anyway, did you already try to remove that black clamp ring?

A moment ago I wanted before another attempt to regulate what the measurable distance of auto-stop running too fast and ...
suddenly everything is going well - all records are turned off at the end! :D
There is not regulated and do not really know why they fixed it.

P.S.
Yesterday evening it was all right, this morning an SP has shut down ahead of time, but again the same SP has already shut down properly and the other SP's too good - I do not know what's going on :?:
