Is Stacking 45's Really That Taboo Around Here?

Postby eddie edirol » 30 Apr 2011 03:20

I ordered the 45 stacker adapter for this garrard turntable. Ive been freely stacking the 7 inch records without it, I see that I can stack them like 11 high (depending on the thickness of the disc) before the bottom of the cartridge starts hitting the record. The tone arm is set really light so none of the discs slip.

I got the deck just to stack 45's. I read that people have a problem with the grooves touching each other, but from what I see with my deck, the label areas are pretty thick, so none of the grooves actually touch each other.

Is there a sound issue that people have with stacking 7 inch records?

I take it you mean American singles, whch don't have grips like the British ones which are designed for stacking up to ten maximum - the gripless ones can still be stacked but can slip, would suggest up to eight at a time to relieve the weight though may cause a little wear and tear on the playing surfaces.

I love stacking my 45's too on my Lab 80. I do it eight at a time. Grooves never touch and I don't have a problem with it.

When I do get an LRS3 spindle though, I'll start stacking them on my Garrard Type A.
