What Is Your Collecting Holy Grail?

name that tune

Postby R-Know » 17 Jan 2011 11:05

I would like to have some more on MFSL in good condition but the prices are way to high for me. I have about 10 albums on MFSL which I also have on the normal vinyl. It noticed some are better than the regular and some are so much better. So in which one to invest?

And I finally found my holy grail

Managed to buy Rammstein's Mutter on vinyl this evening on E-Bay at not too bad a price either. Still a bit more than I'd ever usually consider, but sod it, pay day.

Pity it's on picture disc, but I can live with that.

Frank Sinatra's entire Columbia catalog on 78 and LP's, Paul Whiteman and his Orchestra's entire catalog (all 78's) and the entire Steppan Grappli catalog, especially the Hot Club of France trios with Jingo Rinhart, again all 78's. Then I can get real obscure....

I have a first UK press of Exile... By the Stones with the postcards and in almost mint condition.

This was expensive around 1 year ago before the new release.

I also have Core by Stone Temple Pilots.

Cheers

Engine, we have an original velvets with the peel off banana. Only one problem, before I knew my partner who owns it (we've been together over 20 years so this is a long time ago) someone peeled off the banana and promptly lost it!

Just because you can't find these every day:

I've got the 5 LP Woodstock on MFSL with serial number 00099
I've also got Roger Water Amused to Death, the right one...(Columbia, dutch. Bought it new in the early 90's for Hfl 52,- which is 25 euros now...)

Sometimes I have the Woodstock on, but only for CSNY and Joan Beaz, very very few times I listen to all.

Roger Waters is only played very few times in the past.....

So both are not my absolute favorite albums to listen to....

Still looking for Mike Oldfield's 'CRISES' as a Japanese Pressing. My friend had a copy about 20 years ago and it was so much better than my regular copy. Remember hearing the stunning dynamics of Simon Phillips' Drumming on the last half of the title track (the whole of Side 1).

I had a copy of that album with no banana! Ever seen on of those?

It was the first UK issue, it had the traditional back sleeve on the front and the tracklisting on the back.

I'd like to find this for a semi-reasonable price, or would be ecstatic if re-issued. Neither are likely. My favorite of his.

I have a similar Canadian version. The original version of the back cover photo from the U.S. release is the front cover, the back cover has the track listing and an essay on the band.

i don't collect discs i listen to them ! I prefer a cheap 2nd hand copy of an album that is 30 years old than a re issue remastered digitalized and redigitalized overpriced piece of junk for a fortune ! If you really want to listen the music on an expensive LP but you can't afford it buy it on cd ! If you are a collector and you want the records to put them on a shelf thinking of to sell them in the future for a lot on money then invest on it !
