What Is The Best Catridge For Rega Rp1

on level ground

Postby lustman » 16 Feb 2011 20:42

I agree with you Sandbah 92, i isolate the TT and move my speakers, change the cable, and the sound change.
I have listened vinyls for 25 years, not always with a good stuff, lol.

I think my new TT with this catridge, it's really good but the sound is not enough "alive", not enough warm, but everybody listen music at home think the sound is excellent because it's clear and dynamic.

The reel problem it's my demand :D

What is the best cartridge for the rp1?

Postby Sandbah 92 » 19 Feb 2011 19:52

After not having time for the TT for a few days, I know have it going with a towel spread beneath it. So far I've listened to the Airplane's Crown of Creation, Sgt. Pepper, and now Young's Zuma. I first listened to different tracks without the towel. Definitely more bass with the towel. Perhaps I'll double the towel's thickness and see what happens. I'm using a single layer of a heavy bath towel now.

What is the best cartridge for the rp1?

Postby Sandbah 92 » 17 Mar 2011 21:28

Lustman, I'm not trying to hijack your thread, but I asked this forum this question last week and never had a reply from anyone in the thread about spacers for the p1/rp1 tonearm. I use 4 different cartridges, and when I measure out to see if my tonearm is parallel to the platter it always comes out level. I do not use spacers under the tonearm base. Should I add a spacer anyway?
Do you use a spacer to raise the height of the arm?

i'm french, and i don't anderstand what spacers means, can you explain it?

i'm not specialist, i just change the cardridge with the paper alignement protactor, and my arm look like parallel to the platter.
i have no scale, but use my hear to perfect the sound,
i know that the stanton is about 2g, like the ortofon i think
perhaps i'm lucky

hi guys,
only use spacers (arm height adjusting washers ) to adjust VTA if the arm is not level, if the arm is level and all sounds fine then you should be ok,
happy listening!

matt

A "spacer" is any kind of material (metal, plastic, etc) that can be inserted between two parts or items in order to increase the fitting distance between them.

The closest I can come to in my limited French is "douille d'écartement"
The answer is 42

What is the best cartridge for the rp1?

Postby Sandbah 92 » 18 Mar 2011 03:13

Thank you, Matt!

Lustman , I just got home from work but to answer your question about "spacers" it means to put washers or a plate under the feet of the tonearm to raise it in height so that with carts of different heights your tonearm will remain level straight across above the record/platter. Most spacers I hear about are between 2 and 4 mm.
Hope this clears it for you!

Thanks men to improve my english

No i don't use spacers,
it's better for me with my tonearm since i use the stanton 500
With the ortofon om5, the cartridge slightly touched the warped records, but not with the stanton

as i said here:
