Messages Written On The Dead Wax

Has anybody ever read what the artist wrote in the dead wax? I have Valdy, "Passport" that reads, "turn me over" and on side two, "thanks for listening, Valdy". I think thats kinda cool Cheers, Plastico.

The artist doesn't write in the lockout, the mastering engineer-me-does. I've put lots of stuff in there at the behest of the producer. As an aside, if it has stuff in the lockout it is almost certainly it's from the first batch of lacquers. That sort of thing tends to fall by the wayside on recuts.

I've always been fond of the bizarre messages in the runout groove of 'I Crush Bozo' by the Happy Flowers. The A side reads "Reach out and CRUSH someone" while the B side is home to the inspirational mantra "The bagels won't stop screaming". Wise, wise words.

The Peaceville record label had these messages on all of their releases that I bought in the nineties.

There's a website out there with a database of runoff groove messages and you can contribute ones that aren't yet listed.

In days of yore when knights were bold and I was winging between continents in the exciting music business I used to cut Rough Trade's records in the US. George cut their stuff in England and during one trip I went to his place and met him. I couldn't believe the size of his room. Tiny. I though mine at Amigo was small but his made mine look like the Albert Hall.
And he's really, really good and had been for decades.

A syndicate? Not at all. From what I understand, it's the mark from a Capitol Records pressing plant.

If by a syndicate you mean a labor union, then you are correct. I did a little research and found that IAM stands for the International of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
