Joy Division 7" Box Set

Postby Jimod99 » 08 Dec 2010 20:03

I had this on pre-order from Amazon.ca but again they did not have it in stock on release date (yesterday) :x

Has anyone managed to get a copy? If so how are the pressings, are they better than the original singles that are included in the box?

Hehe, hopefully they're better than the Factory 7" discs! Always found that odd- Their 12" disks were great, the 7" distorted messes. I'll have to have a look at this set myself- Been a loooong time fan of Joy Division!

This actually turned up today!!!

Although I haven't played it yet I must admit to being slightly underwhelmed by the packaging, no booklet and the singles aren't repros of the original (where there was an original) the covers of each individual single show only the cover of the original on the front with a plain rear sleeve with track info and the lables of each single are white with track details in a similar font to the sleeve.

I have one Factory 7", Love Will Tear Us Apart, I think it was pressed in Australia, it sounds fine to me, I don't have a 12" to compare it to 'though.

Let us know how that box set sounds!

According to these sources it was: http://home.dialix.com/~u3336/factory/facuk1.html
http://www.discogs.com/Joy-Division-Love-Will-Tear-Us-Apart/master/5095
http://www.joydiv.org/lwtua12.htm
http://www.factory-overseas.de/australia.html

Apparently my 7" is the Australian CBS version.

Weird. I bought FAC23 in the early 80's :? I don't know if it was sold outside of the UK though?

It must have came out after the 7" was released, possibly a week or so after or once it had charted, which was not uncommon.

I certainly bought the 7" the day it came out (I got the flexi free with it) and I would have got the 12" too if there was one available.

I seem to remember getting the flexi (Komakino) when I bought Transmission. On the question of the 12", I am almost certain I bought both 7 & 12" on the same day, in the first week of release.
