adjusting speed on an Ariston Q Deck DC motor

On my Rotel the screw is located on the side of the bearing housing.... I have to remove the table's baseboard to get at it. Chances are it's nothing like your Ariston bearing, but maybe worth you having a peep inside.

Howler, we had the same problem with our power supplies and with the belst also except mine was so stretched that it used to just stop altogether! A new belt and a regulated supply has my Q deck working a treat. I've not been on the forum for a while or I could have suggested this as the first line of defence!!! I am also thinking of giving my Q deck a service but haven't found the time recently.

I also would like to know if you know how to switch on the turntable after the turntable has switched itself off automatically, I am just switching it off manually at the moment then switchin it back on and it causes the speakers to make a knocking sound as the power disconnects and reconnects.

Any suggestions???!!!!??!

hi el_dudino, this is how mine works, when it comes to the end of a record, the arm lifts ups and stays there, then you move the queing arm to the up postion, then return the tone arm to the holding bracket (it then makes this clunk sound). Then when you aready to start another record, just lift the arm into position, and lower it with the queing arm. Does this help you. Good luck.

Howler, that doesn't work on mine. It makes a clunk sound when I lift it over to the securing post for the tone arm but will not start back up again when I lift it from that postion, even if I lock it in place which I usually do whenever changing a record. I fear the switch may be broken.

hi el_dudino, yes, it sounds like the switch or whatever controls the the on/off is broken.In some of my research into Ariston Q Decks, someone mentioned that Leeroy at Richer Sounds, Stockport UK 0161-480-1700, is an expert in Ariston turntables ( I have not tested this link). He maybe able to help you in getting the problem fixed. I hope this link works out for you and gets your tt up and running. Good Luck.

FWIW there are two trim pots on the underside of the table to adjust speed. One for 33.3 and 1 for 45. They are a PIA to get right.

Hi there.

Most turntables will appear to be fast if you just place the strobe disk on the mat and check the speed with the turntable spinning, this is because most companies set the speed fast to take account of the drag on the platter when you put a record on the deck and place the arm/cart onto it as if to play.

You should try to get a small strobe disk so that you can check the speed under load(turntable turning arm down on record)and should only check after the turntable has been spinning for a few mins this allows the speed to settle.

If you cannot get a small strobe disk then set the speed just a little fast and check until you are happy.If you use a record clamp take account of the weight if it is the heavy type!!

My ariston q deck psu has a broken earth pin (lost about 5mm)
any input as to an after market replacement original says 240v 50hz/12v 350ma could someone advise me which is the best one to get as i assume some of you have had to replace theirs

If the platter turns too fast, it can be slowed using a belt made with dental floss.
Use the unwaxed type and lock it with a square knot. Speed goes down a bit and there is also a better sound, more openness, wider frequency response and soundstaging, more detail. It seems another TT!
