In Oct Nov1966 our Dad bought a new record player, i bought the current hit single with my limited paper round money funds and from that day never looked back

I always remember as a small child that we had a copy of Bill Haley's Thirteen Women with Rock Around the Clock on the B side. I always liked that record, wonder if either of my parents still have it.

I have absolutely no idea what the first single I bought was.

I played this on Sunday, before seeing this post. I also played the Rumbletum Song (The Master Singers) to let the missus know it's din-dins time, and to annoy her further I played The Bob Hawke Drinking Song (thinking of Davidss)and finished off my nostalgia with Emilio Pericoli and Quando Quando, al di la, romantico amore and tango italiano.

PP&M was probably my first album purchase. I still enjoy them.
My first single purchase was an Elvis Presley 78, bought for a Christmas present for my mother. tripped on the Subway steps, coming home, and it broke.

First time I ever saw a 45 it was playing on a Jukebox in a cafe near our school. Jukebox was probably a Bal Ami version of an AMI F 80 or 120.

I just had to have a copy, our radiogram, although being 3 speed had never played anything but a 78 so it really was something new.

Title, Lonnie Donegan, 'Grand Coolie Dam', still have it!.

really had the jukebox bug at one time, got up to 25 machines, good sense and pressure from the family have prevailed so now down to 3, a Wurlitzer 2410 and 2 Rock-Ola 1493 Princess.

Best Jukebox record in the UK has to be Johnny Kidd and the Pirates, Shakin' all over, when I first heard it on an AMI jukebox, just could not believe the bass.

Evening all:

When I was young, we didn't have many gramophone records because they were very ex-pensive here in Australia. I remember Lp's cost 52/6 ($5.25), and singles were 10/6 ($1.05). That was a lot of money back in the early 1960's. My first would have been Bert Kaempfert and his orchestra playing "That Happy Feeling". Still have it on an Australian-pressed cee dee. We found it in a second-hand store. My first "new" one, I'm very sorry to report, would have been one by The Beatles.

Can't remember what it was called, and don't care!

Mine was Cum On Feel The Noize by Slade. I remember that it cost either 45p or 50p which was a week's pocket money for me back then. I haven't got it anymore but it inspired me to record my own version a few years back.

Oldest one I've got that I bought new is Mott The Hoople's Roll Away The Stone.

I was just getting into music at 12 years old. I found this old record player in the basement & fixed it as best I could. I got sick of my sister's old disco records & wanted to get something current.
The first 45 I bought was Lionel Richie's "All Night Long". Since I could afford 3 singles with my $5 allowance, I'm sure I bought two more. I'm just not 100% sure what the other two were anymore. I think one of them was Huey Lewis & the News "Heart & Soul".
