Speed Box Ii Hum

Speed Box II hum

Postby moon unit » 18 Sep 2010 09:39

Is it normal for a Pro-Ject Speed Box II to hum after warming up, not through the turntable but the Speed Box itself? I recently installed one and it was a big upgrade to the sound but noticed today that there is a hum coming from it, you can hear it from within a few feet or so in a quiet room. If it is not normal I can return it for another but I would like to know from others if their Speed Boxes hum as well.

Thanks

Jas, I'm talking about hum from the Speed Box itself, not hum coming through the turntable. When I shut off the turntable and the room is quiet I can hear it.

I used to have a Speedbox Mk II and it was completely silent.

I use a speedbox 11 and never experienced it humming.
Thinking on same wavelength as Alec re transformer hum.........
Is the plugpack power supply (wallwart as it's also called ) nearby? I just wonder if the hum is actually the power supply transformer doing the humming?
Thinking also that as long as the humming is in the same key as the music you're playing......
Cheers.

Thanks for the replies.

Next time somebody comes to Michigan slap me across the head - the hum was coming from a piece of gear on the shelf directly below it.
