It is definitely my desert island table.

A spare 1200 would not go unused in my house. I got my kid a new Rega P1, but he can hear that the 1200 absolutely smokes it.

 Don't let the rega owners here ya say that, they tend to be a sensitive bunch

I've read somewhere that it's the SL-1210 black model that is being discontinued.

As a former Rega owner (well, technically I still am.), I'd have to agree.

After all WE have to defend our mickey-mouse motor mount, ball-bearing-in-a-tube, molded, out of round plastic subplatter and tiny plinth as a TRUE Audiophool table.

Luckly, I drank the DD Kool-Aid, and found a better home for my Rega Arm.... An SL-1200MkII.

Hey I also own a Rega P5 as my "good" table - problem is I listen to the 1200 90% of the time. P1 is a good budget table for under $500.

I am curious how many 1200s there are in existence. This turntable was produced for quite a number of years due to a strong D.J. following, and now with vinyl regaining some popularity again.
Would it be a contender for most produced turntable ever? It just might be the Toyota Corolla of turntables!

Ironically how you point at a wikipedia page of the Corolla.

Would this here have the answer to your question?

Is this for definite this time?
Been rumours about it for over 18 months now.
Wonder what spares they'll still produce if any?

Until something more definite comes to light I personally think this is consigned to the rumour mill, seems like a great way for the first link to sell more units. It is confirmed at the bottom of the second link it is only the MK6 ceasing production.

The only thing that came to a definitive ending was the Universe on the 31st Dec 1999 at 23:59 but everyone had too much of a hangover to notice!!

I just picked up a new one from one of the larger French stores (Darty) andcustomer service mentioned in passing that they were selling off the last three after which Technics would not be able to supply any more.

Lovely deck, by the way. I had no idea the build quality was that good.

Hi Jas, it's been a long time.

It's true: Technics, not only theSL-1200, is discontinued.

Other guys from Nihon can confirm it.

Rumours? What rumours? It's ridicolous. Hey man, it's not a joke, it's called crisis. Please, you can make an inquiry about

The second link states that only MK6 is ceasing production of all other units will remain in production. "UPDATE: Panasonic is in fact ceasing production of the SL-1200MK6 model specifically, while other Technics turntable models will live on. Phew! Sincere apologies for the misunderstanding. [Tokyo Reporter]"

And Sony have just canned the cassette Walkman too. Looks like CD might become the new music medium.

PS - I repeat myself for understress. Please, try to understand:

http://www.asahi.com/business/.....00170.html

And at last, the Mk 6 was the only turntable manufactured by Technics

If you're not so good at japanese, try another topic  8)
