According to the specs Aabottom posted in a different thread:

Power Requirements: 7-12V DC or 9-12V AC @ 150mA, or USB bus powered

The last bit might be all you need to know: You don't need a power supply- just power it from the USB port.

As the previous said, many applications for this unit do not need an external PSU...it just runs from USB...but otherwise my PSU is a 9v DC 1000mA

According to the label on the back of the unit 9v 150mA is all that is required

Wall Power supply 4 usb phono plus v2

Postby Anahog » 28 Jul 2010 04:42

I still don't know the polarity, I all of a sudden started getting a squeal through the usb port. I am gonna try to isolate the problem somehow, manual says the power supply takes priority when its plugged in. Sounds like microprocessor squeal getting into the sound. Probably time to upgrade my computer!! When the computer is working harder its louder, it might even go a minute at times quiet & think maybe Ive fixed it and it comes back .....it's haunting. It's worked perfect for about a year till now . But if I hook it up to my laptop the squeal is totally gone and sounds perfect, left it on all night no squeal what so ever, so the noise is definitely coming from the desktop. Thanks for responding!!!

Sorry I got it wrong, I found a multimeter this morning, and my PSU is 9v AC, not DC as previously stated

As for the squeal, have you tried plugging in to different USB ports.
With one port on my new Mac Pro Workstation, I get a horrible square wave signal introduced, which appears audibily as a low background hum...OK , not a squeal, but it is computer introduced noise on the USB.

Try swapping and see what happens.

On the Mac one of the three ports on the rear produces this noise, and the front ones are all clean

Wall Power supply 4 usb phono plus v2

Yes and I ran it barebones to see if something from pci or dvd burners could be causing it... to no avail even tried another power supply. I really like my computer I finally have a machine I can duplicate 2 cds or dvds at the same time and burn 2 lightscribe labels at the same time.

PM me and I'll send you the e-mail address I have for the manufacturer, they were always very helpful when I had the original square wave noise problem

ART USBPlus

Postby ofior » 18 Aug 2010 04:56

Just wanted to chime in and add my appreciation for ths device. I have ripped many recordings, and they turn out really good. The only thing I detest is that I cannot connet it to my preamp and listen while recording, I must do so through the computer, or with headphones. Otherwise a true bargain for what it does. Of course, I have not compared to others, and they may sound better, just saying the ART sounds very good.

Cheers

I have an IEEE1994 input as well as 9 USB ports, and a Toslink input too, which would be a definite plus. In any case, I'll be bypassing the sound module on the motherboard, although it will handle 6 channel game audio, as with most OEM sound products, it lacks almost everything to be desired. The ART PLUS is pushing the budget and partly duplicates my little Berringer USB box. Audaicty software will do lots of stuff, but it sure isn't "intuitive" to use in my limited experience with it. It's something I'll look at. I've considered a phono A-B switch box, but I'm wary of adding noise from it. At 3.5 to 5mV, it's real easy to add noise to the audio flow path, and I have 6 empty line inputs (DVC, VCR2, DAT, and more). Lap-tops are more likely to get "ground loops" and pick-up noise due to their compact construction. Ole' "Frank"(Frankenstiened) here is redundant-redundant as it was a "gamers" 'puter before I got it. A DVD burner, a CD burner, three hard drives and a half tera-bite external drive, plus an "Oh-my-Gosh" video card with a Px driver on it and 4 (!) cooling fans and outputs for three monitors, "wall papered" together...it's a Radeon 9800 Pro Plus which is still a heck of a video card. I tried and returned a well known on-board audio card for burning CD's, and I don't think I'm wanting to go that way again. Besides, I'd like to hook in the Dual without major cable swapping. Ain't it always sumpin'? Thanks to everyone and I'll do some looking and head-scratching.

Sorry to revive an old thread.

How is the phono stage of this preamp? I was considering a MM phono preamp to use on my AV system for casual listening and considered the NAD, Musical Fidelity V-LPS, and the TC-750 which has had some very good reviews.

I thought occasional conversion to digital files would be a bonus, and
I was thinking of getting the TC-772 from phonopreamps.com as they say they consider it to be the sonic equivalent of the TC-750, but then came across this ART unit. Is it at least up to budget audiophile standards for sound?

Your experiences and opinions are appreciated.

TIA

Anyone have any opinions? Also, it seems the v2 has been replaced by the PS which is USB 2.0 compliant.

I too am very interested, one in how good a preamp it is and also if it can output the phono signal directly via toslink.

Turns out it can't do phono --> SPDIF :(
