Clamp for Ariston RD 80

I Have a Ariston RD80 without a clamp. Any suggestions as to what clamp / weight might be appropriate.

I think you have a bit of an issue here as if I stand correct isn't the RD80 platter slightly concave and makes me wonder if a regular clamp or weight might work.

I use one of the Revolver PIG weights on my RD110 and that might be aslution given that the footprint is relative small, likewise there are a few on E-Bay now and then which appear to be much the same.

I think using something down the lines of a Michell or a 'TTwieghts' clamp might have an effect on successful clamping as it may result in the LP lifting at the edges.

Of course that is if the platter is indeed concave.

I can't see that happening. However, I would stick to one of the lighter ones, like the 1 lb aluminium weight, so as not to overload the suspension.
My RD-80 has a flat platter.

The platter is flat and the spindle is threaded.

Ah ah. In that case either a michell or one of the TTweights clamps would be fine.

Believe me clamps don't come more well made and attractive, plus they do the job perfectly and compared to many don't cost the earth.

Should slip stright over your existing spindle.

On mine the spindle has a screw thread. would that affect things?

If the record will fit over the spindle, the weight will fit over the spindle.

Hi, do I take it that your RD80 originally would have been supplied with a clamp manufactured by Ariston and it is missing. rather than an aftermarket item.
Is there no forum member who might have one of these and could offer some dimensions?

Hi, since your original post, i have obtained an Ariston RD80SL, and like yours it is missing the original clamp.

I can see now that the universal clamps offered by other manufactures will not work with this deck. The turntable spindle has hardly any plain diameter, just enough to locate the mat and not really enough to centre the disc. the rest is threaded.

I have, in a seperate thread, asked if anyone has a clamp, could offer dimensions and/or confirm the thread which is an oddball. No replies, so it would seem that we are on our own.

Machining a clamp is not a problem for me, and after a little research have determined that in my opinion the thread is a 'truncated' version of an M7 x 1.0. Truncated (which means that the top of the thread form is removed) probably because a sharp new thread on the spindle would enlarge the centre hole of the discs. I will now estimate the size of the clamp, produce one and give it a try.

I suspected other clamps might be problematic. There is a picture of one on this website but sadly no mention of weight.

I own a RD80 with a clamp, if you can wait till this coming weekend I will measure and weigh it if this is of help. I think the RD40 also had the same clamp.
