Zero 100S Overhang

Postby willbewill » 07 Dec 2002 18:46

Just got a Garrard Zero 100S (the idler wheel version) up and running with Russ Andrews Yello power lead and Shark interconnects along with my Spotmat replacing the rubber. Using a Shure M75ED Encore with new stylus it sounds pretty good  :D - not up to standard of my STD/Rega decks but very listenable  8) - next step will be a very heavy plinth as it is still only in plastic unit  ;). Thanks to Lucio for tempting me to get one to play around with - but now I feel I need to get a 100SB as well to compare belt to idler. But the main reason for this post is to ask does anybody know correct cartridge overhang setting? regards malcolm

I would think precise overhang would be irrelevant, as the headshell pivots to maintain a near-zero tracking error.  I would, however, see no reason why you couldn't use a "null" alignment gauge to set overhang. You might want to try a GOOGLE search.  I know that somewhere, once, I found a Zero-100 dedicated website.  You might get lucky and find it too.

You could perhaps contact Lucio Cadeddo at TNT-Audio, he has written three articles concerning the Zero 100. Here is a link: http://www.tnt-audio.com/clinica/garrard2e.html

Hi, The stylus locates directly under the center-pivot point of the bearing on the top of the headshell. That is the point of tangency maintained by the secondary control arm. You should be able to see that alignment from a side view of the cartridge. Good luck! Roy
