Just like the post below, only for younger people. I was a grunge and alternative kid for the most part. But there was so much going on in the 90's. Besides all the stuff coming out of Seattle you had all the different kinds of rap and hip-hop, mainstream Pop, Country was starting to go mainstream, Jam Bands were coming into their own, and later in the decade you had NuMetal. And lets not forget the stupid ass boy bands and Britney Spears and her clones.

Radiohead, Radiohead, Radiohead.

Plus
Bjork
Underworld
Leftfield
The resurgence of Paul Weller
Ok, Ok, Blur and Oasis
Black Crowes
Porcupine Tree
Portishead
Jellyfish
Some of Metallica's best stuff
Loads more

The '90s was a pretty rich time, certainly much better than the awful '80s and waaaaay better than the noughties, which have been patchy indeed.

'67-'79 is still the best period for music though...
Linn LP12, OL RB300, Ortofon 2M Black, Graham Slee Era Gold V, Cambridge Audio 840C, Modwright SWL9.0SE, Audio Research VS55, Sonus Faber Concerto Domus. Luxman L-309X, Yamaha YP511, Luxman T-88V, Pioneer PD-S501, ProAc Tablette 50.

My faves from the nineties:

Soundgarden
Alice in Chains
Nirvana

Pantera
Rage Against the Machine
System of a Down

Pretty good decade. At least the guitar regained it's title as rock instrument of choice.

Do the Red Hot Chili Peppers fit in this? :-k

As an olde phart, I do enjoy

Pearl Jam
Nirvana

and others....

Is this also vinyls' darkest hour? and consequently, the poorest quality control? as written about in other VE topics?

Also, thinking that sound engineering for / on CD was coming into its own and loudness wars was not evident in everything yet...? :?: :?: :-k :-k

Fred and wondering about the HD icon and thinking I may be as olde as your grandparents...... :) Just how olde are you LColor?

Pearl Jam
Nirvana

Hi,
Most of the stuff I liked in the 90's were bands that got started in the 80's and were still putting stuff out. I actually have some VHS of Liquid Television and 120 Minutes. :)

The Posies were a huge fixture for me in that era.
R.E.M. were still turning out great stuff along with Replacements (Westerberg) and The Ramones.
They Might Be Giants
Morrissey
Jawbox
Trip Shakespeare were awesome (later to become a more pop sounding Semisonic)
Sunny Day Real Estate
Jets To Brazil
Compulsion
Blur
Like someone else mentioned... Danzig. Even the new Misfits stuff was decent compared to some stuff in "The Noughties". Hahaha.

And of course the countless amounts of bands influenced by My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless" LP released in 1991.

And there was still a decent Punk scene with bands like Jawbreaker, Crimpshrine, Green Day, The Muffs etc..

The thing I liked most about the Grunge movement was that it opened up people's minds to different types of sounds and let some of the Alternative bands from the 80's get some exposure too.

@Deltawave:
I was just at The Haunt a couple of weeks ago to see Freezepop. Had an awesome time!

 Thank You is a great album!

The 90s are responsible for about 50% of my favourite music

Lemonheads (particularly Shame About Ray)
Make-Up
Mercury Rev
Afghan Whigs
Jellyfish
Red House Painters

Along with others already mentioned, just the tip of the iceberg

Out of Time, Automatic for the People, and Monster. What a trilogy!
I kind of lost touch after that although a seem to recall the Hi-fi album was pretty good too.

I used to think the nineties were a snore fest but the more I read this forum the more realize it was a pretty good decade musically.
Metallica's Black Album although not there best was certainly a revolutionary album.
