AR Belts 2010

Hi,

Where are folks in the US sourcing belts right now? I used to buy from someone on eBay with the words "vintage electronics" in their moniker. I don't see them today.

I bought one a while back from ebay seller "pureaudionut" that has worked well.

I also bought from turntablebasic, and they work great on my AR TT. I bought two of them and keep one in a bag with baby powder as a spare.

They're in Colorado, and they are the best belts I have found.
I bought one belt several weeks ago from an e-bay seller listing the correct width belt aand such in his add....they were going for $8.00. They are too thick and too tight.

I also bought a belt from an Ebay seller, a PRB brand belt. It was also advertised as having the correct width, etcetera selling for $8.00. Maybe the same one you bought.

I had to return it because it was too tight. Not as elastic as the original belt. The motor struggled to start the table.

My belt dimensions are: Inside Circumference: 23.6”, Width: 0.135”, Thickness: 0.030”.

What I’ve found so far seems grim.

The EVG brand part number is: 1407-212 I.C. = 22.423”, Width = 0.188, Thickness: 0.031” but is too short and too wide.

A better fit would be:
The EVG brand part number is: 1407-533 I.C. = 23.6”, Width = 0.185, Thickness = 0.033”, but still too wide. I don’t know where to get this one in small quantities anyway.

The PRB brand part number is: FRY23.6 but only has in inside circumference of 23.3 inches and it’s also made from a stiffer material. But it has the correct width and thickness. I think this is the one I had to return.

So the bottom line question is; where do we get the correct AR Turntable replacement belt in 2010?

Bob's were the best I used...just a tad on the tight side...I usually place one on the 45 portion of the pulley for a week or so, and that seems to make it more usable. (NOT running)

Thanks for the link...I guess he decided to stop listing in eBay.

I especially like the quality of the rubber on his belts...very pliable.

This actually isn’t an AR belt but it works very well in my opinion. It's the Panasonc SJY90080-3. Thinckness – 0.020”, Width – 0.155, Length – “just right”. This belt is wider by 0.020 and thinner by 0.010 than the original belt but it works very well. It clears the pulley flanges by a comfortable margin. No motor strain and it doesn’t pull the suspension off center. It’s more compliant than the PRB FRY23.6.

I’m using this belt in my AR “Legend” ‘table now and it’s performing beautifully.

You can get one for about ten bucks plus about $1.50 shipping from KAB. Or if you’re interested in stocking up you can get them from partstore.com for $4.95 each plus $7.95 shipping. That shipping is for just about as many belts as you’re likely to want. And wherever you get them I suggest you make sure you're getting the Panasonic OEM belt not a substitute.

No, the belt lengths are all the same from the 60's models through the 80's. What's different is the range of belts that different suppliers are selling.

I got a belt from Needle Doctor about a year ago that was the same, too tight. They were good about swapping for a better size. Still not as good as the ones I got from Turntable Basics.

The tip on the Panasonic seems interesting.

Maybe they ask more questions when you order, but for modern manual AR turntables they only show one belt? That's not right, surely they ask more than that? Last one I ordered was from LP gear, they had a whole page listing of various "modern" ( not the early tables) ARs, even the ES-1 and the "The Turntable", which appear identical, had different model numbers? Can someone who's ordered from these guys clear this up for me?

No, the belt lengths are all the same from the 60's models through the 80's. What's different is the range of belts that different suppliers are selling.

Wrong! there are many, at least several different belts for the AR tables. This is why so many mixed results are being posted. Even the ES-1 and The turntable, which appear identical, have slightly different belts. LP gear shows some 15 different belt numbers for AR tables. Where are you getting this misinformation from?
