Pl-117D Repeat

My PL-117D won't cancel the repeat function. I have tried all of the methods described in the manuals, but it just keeps playing over and over again. Pushing STOP button resets the REPEAT button but just restarts playing the record again. The only way to stop is to hold the tone arm in the rest until the table shuts off. Pushing START starts playing but it never stops . Any ideas?

Thanks Alec. I got that but it does really address this problem specifically. There is a lot of technical stuff about adjustments etc and I did not really want to open it up and fiddle around inside. I might do more harm than good. I was hoping that someone else might have had the same problem and could offer some insight in how to fix it. Thanks for looking tho and maybe I will have to be daring and see what I can figure out inside the belly of the beast.

I expect that there is some old grease that has gone stiff gumming up the works.

I took a quick look at the PL-117 internals and it looks to be quite similar / the same.

The link above targets the auto return mechanism and why it doesn't engage, hopefully the reverse will also hold true for why it does engage continually.

I looked at that section but I can't figure out how to remove the platter. It does not pull up easily and I do not want to force it and break something. As I said I will have to get adventurous some afternoon and take it apart and see if I can figure this out.

Hello. Most time this problem with model PL-117D come from one of 3 wire parts installed to for allowing transfer of mechanical function when button press to make plates operate. For REPEAT function is number 3 wire or WIRE C plus for STOP function is number 2 wire or WIRE B. Repeat function not cease if part by name PLATE K never lock into pin on part by name PLATE L. Look to service manual in section 11.4 for the figure 26 plus figure 27 plus figure 28. Such pin on PLATE L must make lock with plate K to cease repeat function. Plus is most importnat also make the check for correct adjustment in section 12 in the order as list in such section.

I just replaced the belt on my PL-117D and the instructions stated that while lifting up on the platter. tap the center pin with a hammer - worked just fine. I didn't have to tap very hard. - Thought they were crazy, I could just hear me telling my friends, I'm working on my turntable with a hammer
